And now you know what were ready to strike over. To keep from having a crap contract shoved up our ass. Ups pays your salary? Who got it to the rate it is and keeps it from going lower? Ups pays your insurance? Who keeps it form being 50/50 instead of 80/20? Take your raise and buy a clue.
I have plenty of clues. I'll probably use it to by food.

... but I don't see why a show of support is such a huge request.
I have to ask what your question mark means? Are you in 804? Because they have extended picket lines to us. Does that mean that you would cross a picket line?

The ? means I don't know what my course of action would be if this issue is not settled. I sincerely hope that your local decides to work under the existing, continue to negotiate with one of the contract provisions being that 705 become part of the NMA. I find it disturbing that 1% may end up disrupting the lives of the remaining 99% and don't know how much support is in place or will be if you guys do walk.

No, I am not in 804. That is the city (I think). I live about 5 hours from NYC.

Im hoping this is premature, but anyways. Nothing would get out of cach, because once a trailer made it to the rails, we then would put up pickets there and then the rail yards would then walk backing up semis for miles down the tristate (294). Shuting down everything on the south side. Same would happen downtown chicago. All of the high rises are also union and would not allow ups on property because the same would happen. This happened in 97 and downtown chicago was shut down because of all the union freight companies assisted in blocking traffic.

It was an ugly sight if you were management, but from a union memebres point, i had tears in my eyes, so beautiful!

Yes, you are correct.... You and Fred S, with his company of non-union employees were glad to step in and take our packages.... Remember where that strike got you... You agreed to a contract was not as good as the original offer... Apparantly, intimidation and extortion, not math, are still the teachings of choice for the Teamsters.....

I think my post got mixed in with 705's :)

It should read like this:

Moral support--no problem.

Support beyond that--?

Have any of you really thought about what MIGHT happen if you should cross a picket line?
Lets be real here, your union could pull your card if you didn't back your Teamster brother or Sister. Where would you be then? With out a job and NO union to help you.

I am from 710 and yes I will fly anywhere if needed to set and hold a picket line.

If it should come down to a picket who would be willing to open their homes to some of your Union brothers/sisters?

So in 97 it was ok that 99% of upsers disrupting the 1% of upsers in chicago. I never thought twice about supporting you. Its sad to see the me,me,me attitude. Do what you must, but im sure you will have trouble sleeping at night when you know that you have either crossed or delivered packages from chicago.
The longer the strike lasts the more it will hurt nationally and we are prepared if its another long haul. But with support from our brothers and sisters it shouldnt be a long strike. So i guess the decision is in your hands on how long the strike will/could last.

So now you've got me curious. If I received a box originating Chicago and opened it, would I be questioned about my loyalty to the union cause? Because if you guys go out and take the nation with ya....I'm screwed 7 ways from Sunday. I'm setting up a new department at a college and my materials are coming UPS! Not that anyone cares, of course.... -Rocky

the me, me, me displayed by your local is what everyone is in an uproar.

We have our national we would like to be able to relax for the next five years. your me, me, me seperate negotiations is keeping us from doing so.

are your members prepared for the loss of jobs after a strike? Are you prepared for the possibility that a company like ups might decide they have too many eggs in chicagos basket? There is more at stake here then just a few nickles on the contract

So in 97 your local had a settled contract you were happy with and you joined the picket lines only to support the national?

Red,

I'm sure he likes them. Me? I straddle the fence too much for comfort.

I wonder how many customers like me are wondering when they'll turn on the news and see a Chicago ABC7 reporter talking about how UPS has been struck by the IBT. I don't deal with logistics personally but you can bet my life would be hell anyway. -Rocky

Your right they worked for the company long enough to retire, they didnt sort for 2 months in chicago and then again in denver for 3 weeks, they invested their lives here. I also dont say anything about retired management for the same reasons.

My main concern is not the money its the language. Its obvious that the ups negotiating team does not listen to the everyday operation managers or this would have been settled.

Rumor has it that cdw is pulling out, thats 10 million a year leaving, maybe we will get serious tomorrow.

Shall we take a ride on the the way back machine? I worked for UPS at Chicago for a year and a half, worked in Denver for almost a year and driver helped in both regions. C'mon, Red.....we got along like good friends not so long ago, brother! -Rocky
