The problem they have with firing supervisors is that it reflects badly upon whoever hired them. That is why they find it preferable to either transfer or promote them instead, that way they can just move the problem elsewhere. The exception to this is when the supervisor in question is in his early 50's and approaching the point where he is eligible to retire with company-paid medical benefits until qualifying for Medicare. There is big money to be saved by whacking a guy just before he qualifies for the medical, you figure a minimum of $1.2 K per month for a COBRA thats almost $15K per year for the 7 years between retirement and Medicare at 62, it comes to around a $100K difference for the company over that time period. Pretty big incentive to whack 'em early.....
