Even if Kamala is a bad candidate I think Trump has probably been blunting independent voter enthusiasm with his Vance VP pick and his reversion back to old Trump. The right in general has probably been blunting it too by putting out pretty nasty stuff about her. She's obviously a leftist and could easily lose on the issues alone if that's what Trump and co chose to focus on.
