Ehen the topic of the hurricane came up , Vance got to Appalachia in fifteen seconds. Then climate change was mentioned, so he has to talk about “weird weather patterns.” Which he proposes to fight with -- manufacturing??... which he claimed Harris is driving to China, which must have been news to blue-collar workers from the last fifty years.

Any late season, strong hurricane that hits that area, can do the same thing. A several hundred miles long arm of the hurricane trained on the mountain range in NC/TN, and the mountains' cold air wrung out thirty inches of precipitation.

30 inches of rain in a couple days, will destroy most places.

The National Weather Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and\or the National Hurricane Center should have warned people that 15-30 inches of precipitation is probably deadly.

More so because the rain ran off the surrounding mountains causing mud slides and fast moving floods. The same amount in Florida wouldn't cause anywhere near the devastation. In Florida we know the real danger is on the coast between high winds and storm surge. But go inland 50 miles and the hurricane is usually much weaker. What hit NC wasn't a hurricane. The winds had already dropped well below hurricane strength. At that point it was a tropical depression loaded with moisture. If it had hit eastern NC it wouldn't have done near the destruction that hitting those mountains did.
