Not in the Atlantic either. I've heard of steward's having super seniority for layoffs but not for regular bidding, that's new one.
We become shop stewards (at least i did) to give back to the union that has given us alot and to leave something for the next generation of teamster. Also to help and educate those who dont know how it works.. Not for bidding rights..

I still have at least 30 to go, finish your run. Five or so more years? Hearing what you senior guys make from pension payouts and top rate paychecks helps us young guys get through the mess that is UPS.

Always ask if the conversation could lead to discipline. If they say yes, demand to have your steward present. If they say no, and then bring up discipline during the conversation, tell them the conversation is over until a steward can be there.

Considering leaving UPS.
Looking for some input here..
Im a 20+ year upser. I've been package and now feeder for almost 10yrs. Over the past couple years ive become very disgruntled. Between feeder runs being moved or eliminated all together and drivers bumping me down ive become jaded.. The very real reality of having to go back and do package after almost 10yrs of feeder is something i cant stomach. This may sound like a whoa is me moment but understand that our package dept is run by a handful of derelicts who have no clue... 180-200 stops per route with 15-20, 9.5 grievances filed per day in a building with 35-40 daily routes. For the first time ever im actually considering walking away. Anybody out there that may have some words of advice or encouragement that may help.. As a shop steward I usually have the answers but this time im just blinded... Any input will be helpful.

I’m currently job searching in an attempt to leave ups. Sad because I started in preload for a few years and am in within my first 6 months of driving.
But thinking of how I would like to start a family and the work load I am given (10+ dispatch hour days), I could never carry a baby full term.
Sad they treat all of their employees like slaves just to make profits for their shareholders but I guess that’s the way it works.
With your time in, I would tough it out until the end. I am only leaving now because I am still 25+ years from retirement. Not enough invested into this to want to continue; even if it means giving up a well paying job for something that pays less (but has way less stress, not only physically but mentally).
Good luck on your decision

IF you have to go back to package, work really slowly so you will always get put on the cake routes.

Use FMLA leave for pregnancy. Save up sick time and use that too. There have been several full time women who drove till about a month before they popped too, though a few just keep having children and going on light duty every other year.

I'm in a tiny center also. Got 29 yrs on Nov 3. I have been to that point where you are. Just one day at a time. I see the end coming. Your last 6 to 7 yrs are going to be a flash. Too many yrs to start over.

I was a casual for 10 yrs first. No vacation, sick or rovers. Only get my 5 week vacation next yr.

Again. You are a steward. How can't you bump s number one guy?

Lots of places don’t have super seniority

Not...
People who don't think other good paying jobs with good benefits, vacation and hours exist are the same people who have been successfully beaten down by the UPS machine.

The stress is real, we had a driver kill himself not long ago, left a wife and kids, not sure if it was the job but I'm sure it didn't help.
Consider transferring to a different building, you would be shocked how different hubs are from place to place.
Suggestions about doing something different are good too, with as much time you have with the company getting a job somewhere else shouldn't be as hard as you might think.
Last thing, don't underestimate how good a long vacation can be, really can put things into perspective.
Good luck to you brother!

It's probably time to get out if you are posting that on an anonymous internet forum.

There's nothing cool about working at UPS or being a "UPS'er". It basically means failing at life. :D Sorry to say

I firmly believe UPS wants to be the worlds most hated company to both employees and customers. The former might work for a while, but not the latter.

THIS. So sad but true. UPS has grown into a monster that sees itself as invulnerable to bad press. For all their flaws the only thing that keeps this company going is our union employees and representation. I know unloaders who take more pride in their work than some center manager's I have met. Some drivers are real s..tbags too who truly think they are super hotshots. I never was one of those. I was only on coverage but rarely ever met a customer who didn't like me because I showed them respect and a friendly face no matter how much I was angry/dying inside. Some drivers act like arrogant tools and take their bad day and in general poor decisions in life that led them to this job out on anyone who dares ask them to go an extra step or speaks to them for more than a split second. Sadly management doesn't discourage this whatsoever, in fact I have seen many in management on road be super huge d!cks right to customer's faces.

I miss the customers actually because they'd brighten my day a bit by typically being glad to see me. Especially if they were a smoking hot female. That never hurt lol. Even though I felt like a turd monkey in a brown turd uniform in a dirty turd mobile, I never ruined someone else's day, no matter how demeaned and enslaved I typically felt.
