Slow & steady wins the race.
You couldn't be more wrong. UPS has figured out that paying the 2 hour penalty pay for failing to reduce dispatch to 8 hours (only after the driver grieves it) is cheaper than adding more routes. It is also cheaper for them to pay drivers triple time for a few hours each week (again only after the grievance procedure) than adding more drivers and routes. There are stacks of 9.5 grievances handed in each week in our center and it's been that way for the past 2 or 3 months. Two fixes for these situations that drivers just don't use........... 8 hour guarantee and 9.5 grievances. When they cut routes exercise your 8 hour guarantee instead of running out the door and they will have to put more routes in. Filing 9.5 grievances will force them to reduce your dispatch at least 3 days a week. The contract only helps you if you enforce it.
It was the same situation last summer also. We finally got paid for our grievances in the fall, but only after our summers were ruined and our bodies beaten down.
