Who is subject to Hours of Service regulations?
HOS regulations apply to drivers who operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in the United States, no matter whether they are from the United States or an international motor carrier from Canada or Mexico. A CMV is defined as a vehicle (with or without a trailer) which satisfies any of the following conditions:- Weighs (including any load) at least 10,001 lbs. (4,536 kg), OR

They'll probably be given to the cover driver who they gave 5 hours of notice to inform that he'd be punching in a 5 AM to help with FOs. He'll probably code them up and take them back to the station and they'll end up going out with the regular route and getting attempted at 6 PM after the doctor's offices have closed.

I know why they did that. My station made the mistake of making to many people non-DOT and now they're paying for it. Some of those routes NEED a bigger truck. Now they have to convince the SM and DM to spend the money to put them back to DOT.
But, he didn't say if he was DOT or not.

I have a DOT related question. If you are DOT, but take a non DOT route, does that make you non DOT or are you still DOT until your medical card expires?

The vehicle you drive is what matters. If you're holding a card but only drive something under 10kgvw, then you are considered Non-DOT

You are DOT until you card expires. Then it's up to your manager/senior manager whether to renew it.
Not sure about that. I had to jump through all kinds of hoops with my diabetes for the office that monitors such things. Then my status was changed to non-DOT and they immediately stopped the oversight. I literally was in jeopardy of being pulled off the road until my BMI improved and my blood sugar improved when they dropped the matter.

I wonder if McDonalds will open up their inside seating once the Covid stuff is over. They seem to be doing quite well with nothing but drive-thru. Both of our Micky D's have a dozen cars lined up most all day long and the line moves surprisingly quick. I'm sure they are saving money with the dinning rooms shut down and nobody working the inside cash registers

Ok, that is what I was thinking.
So I am DOT until January '21; my manager says since I drive a Sprinter now, I am automatically non DOT and therefore have to work 7 days a week this peak. I did come in last Sunday, but have always figured something wasn't right, especially since earlier this year I drove a Reach when my Sprinter was in the shop.

As far as actual DOT regulations are concerned, if you’re driving a vehicle under 10k HOS don’t matter. I have no idea about Express policy.

I don't believe the vehicle you drive has anything to do if you are considered DOT. If you are carrying a medical card, you are DOT 24/7. Driving a Sprinter or an Econoline, you are DOT

For Express policy? Anyone can go get a med card regardless of employer. If the vehicle you drive is under 10k you aren’t governed by DOT regulations.
