I honestly don't know why you bother trying to carry on a conversation with this "guy". He will never admit to ever possibly being wrong or that the union has sold out the membership on more than one occasion. I respect how you make your points though- especially when trying to make a point with this particular "guy".
Ignoring the teamster.net hot hair spillovers makes the union side more easily read and useful.

My answer to this question is twofold.

First, I don't need or desire to surround myself solely with like minded people and opinions, actually to the contrary.
Listening to, and engaging, those with opposing viewpoints expands my perspectives and makes me more knowledgeable and a better speaker on more subject matter.
While I absolutely suspect that @BigUnionGuy and I agree on way more than we disagree, it's also evident that we do differ on occasion....and that's perfectly fine with me, I don't take it personally.
I have learned a lot from Bug and always appreciate the time he takes to engage me, while maintaining a mostly respectful, professional, and friendly decorum.

Secondly, I find our encounters beneficial in regards to the fact that we aren't the only two "in the room".
While we rarely sway one another from a position on the few contentious issues we negotiate, I would like to think those who are also "in the room", reading and following along, gain perspective from both of us?
While I believe that I do know a lot, I also know that I don't know everything....and those who think they do, are most certainly a liability.

Admittedly, there a couple of posters here, one in particular, that this dynamic is not in play.
Those engagements are purely for the sport of it.

You do realize the company has worked drivers on the day after Thanksgiving

since the late 90's.... and at first, tried to pay the drivers the "penalty" if they

were forced and straight time if they volunteered.

They lost at the JAC. The Union interpretation was correct.

Air packages only.
And when did that get stretched to every service level?

If you’re so long in the tooth and are treated so poorly retire and find something else. Life’s too short.

Teamsters.... supporting Teamsters in Providence RI.

Escort a Union BA from the property ?

We show up in support.

Starting wage is a waste of time.
Thanks I guess I should have been more specific. Why was he escorted off UPS property. Excited to see the unity!

For what!?!? I hope they filed the NLRB charges ASAP!
Company stated a multitude of reasons. Real reason, BA got into an argument with a female sup who constantly harasses employees. The sup went to the labor manager on the same day that SO handed this labor manager his ass at the panel. So sup complained to butt hurt labor guy, labor guy bans BA. Just another case of retaliation that UPS thinks is an anomaly.

So, bottom line. Did this accomplish anything? Was management impressed? Did they say anything in the PCM that day? Is the BA allowed back on property?

That is a very accurate summary, also retaliation for fighting the 70 hour workweek BS.

.

Top UPS brass happened to be at the building yesterday morning. The Mayor was scheduled to meet at UPS. The Mayor decided the Teamsters were better friends and didn't show up. So top management were only met with 400 of us on the sidewalk and 3 Teamster rigs. I'd say it sent a strong message. Social media has gone crazy over this. Our PO is at national negotiations, along with SO, so something will happen about this.

@Gimme Danger might know a bit more about that. I’m sure it’s being worked on. And if the company ever wants a functioning safety committee again, they will move (like they said they would) the sup and the BA will be back to regular order of business. Providence has one of the very few truly union run safety committees.
