Why are airline pilots and air traffic controllers required to use English ?
..............................
tos, there are many places named after something other than English, not just spanish.
Should ,according to your logic, rename everything ? So you don't like American Indian names ?
Actually you could submit this idea to bhos, it could be his new jobs bill.
Think of all the new signs that will have to be made, that could restart our steel factories, all the cement needed to place these signs along every highway, another business that could bloom, and all the man hours need to remove & replace all the new signs.

The key IS....they don't want to SPEAK IT. Don't Want to SPEAK IT !!!!!!

I wont sell you a clue for 50 bucks but let me clue you in on a little something. Everytime you SPEAK your TOWN, HOME STREET or give somebody directions on how to get there, you will be speaking SPANISH WORDS.

How does that escape you?

Peace.

ITs NOT my idea mr Tainz....

Im only showing the ridiculous claim that we can be an ENGLISH ONLY country. Explain that one to moreluck, she thinks the word TACO is an american word.

Peace,

This is one of the most ridiculous twists of a post I've seen in quite a while. It is truly laughable and very childish just how far extreme you, tos, will go to attempt to demean another poster, namely Moreluck. You look for chances to continue the constant berating and are relentless. Everyone reading this knows exactly what More meant by her post.
The fact is that the American English language is made up from words of various origins including Spanish. As these words become common to both English and Spanish the pronunciation and sometimes even the direct meaning will be changed. Take the word Taco, the literal meaning in Spanish is " a snack" wrapped in a tortilla (there's another Spanish rooted word), in "Spanglish" Taco is more detailed to the tasty food many enjoy eating. There are a slew of words that have been "Americanized" to fit in with our version of English. TOS, there are lots of posts by you that can be taken to extremes as well, some have have been. Did you appreciate it when it was done to you? In your zeal to hammer Moreluck for something she never meant, you have shown your hearts desire to try and make Moreluck to be an idiot, when in fact it is the manipulator that needs help.

TRIP,

I understand clearly that many words from many languages have been "americanized" and placed in everyday use in america. Thats a no brainer. The english only concept itself is the issue, not the morphing of words.

If this county is to be an ENGLISH ONLY country, then english words would have to be used. To use "hybrid" words would be to circumvent the purpose of english only. Its not me whos twisting and idea.

I am only showing the ridiculous nature of the idea.

Our country is littered in spanish, from states, to counties, to cities, to towns, to streets, to schools, to shopping centers to housing communities.

Moreluck commented on this post concept, and I followed up on it.

This is what a blog is suppose to do. One idea vs. another idea.

She chose to cheerlead the idea of english only, and I am on the opposite side of the idea because I know it cant be done. If a person wants to promote a concept, they should be asked to be held to every standard that goes along with that concept.

This country has many different languages and peoples. To say or promote a concept that English only should be the way of life in this country is foolish.

In morelucks case, she lives in a city with a spanish name ( as do I) shes lives on streets with spanish names (as do I) she shops in shopping centers with spanish names (as do I) and if this was an english only state, all these things would need to be changed into english words.

Calle Santa Fe isnt an american name. Its spanish. Via Morongo isnt an american name. Simply writing them down on anything is writing in spanish. Uttering them is speaking spanish.

The same goes for cities, counties , towns and roads.

The english only proponents only want ballots in english so hispanics cant vote. Where do you think the english only crowd draws the line on english only?

To utter spanish words with american accents isnt americanizing spanish into spanglish. I am hispanic and know very well the intentions of the english only proponents.

Our country was once a part of mexico, and its history is deep in our states. Our spanish people who live here have a right to speak whatever language they want to speak. When voting, if printing in spanish makes it easier for them to understand what they are voting for, then thats what our country has to do.

The same for the chinese, vietnamese, koreans, russians, germans, and any other ethnic group that makes up a large voting block.

Spanglish is still spanish. It cracks me up how people promote an idea, then find ways to circumvent the very concept they promoted.

If english only is what is required, then everything has to be in english. That means change, otherwise its a foolish venture.

Peace.

The point moreluck is that you cant "speak" spanish words in english. They are spanish. If a person who spoke german says "san diego" in a heavy german accent, does that make it german?

with all the pressing problems Ca. has pending now this comes up,
police-bedsheets.jpg
California crime scene.
When California’s elected officials come back from their month-long recess they face a mountain of proposed legislation (almost 900 bills are lined up and waiting), including a new law (SB432) that would require hotels to eliminate flat sheets. Not having fitted sheets on hotel beds would now be a crime in California. This is not a joke…
The fitted-sheet bill is the brainchild of State Senator Kevin De Leon (a Democrat from Los Angeles), whose mother suffered back pains while working as a hotel maid. Kevin has been quoted as saying this was “an issue close to my heart.”

Another nice try, but another fail. You know good and well that Moreluck nor anyone else meant English words only. What More is suggesting that all business and government documents be done in American English. That would take in all the Spanish, German, ...yadda yadda .....words that have ben incorporated into the country. English is taught in more countries than any other single language, international business has been done in English for generations. Part of the equation of becoming an American citizen is to assimilate to our culture, including the American English language. By pandering to people who aren't supposed to be here to begin with as well as those that refuse to learn the language cost the tax payers untold amounts of money just printing of governmental forms. The government should not be required to print forms in every language of the earth.

BTW continuing to push the concept that More suggested to the extreme of no other words used but English words just shows how far you will go to demean another poster. That truly sad TOS.

I'm never in defense of CA. government, but I don't think this liberal state has really thought this through. Try & follow...... Changing the bottom sheets from flat to fitted corners makes it easier to make a bed. Being easier, means less maids needed. That means less jobs for the many illegals who work as maids. Eliminating jobs for illegals is totally against the liberal agenda.....what were they thinking???????

This is total nonsense.......with a state that's broke you're losing sleep over fitted or flat? Geez, Jerry, we have assisted living memory centers here in the state, book a room.

TRIP,

oh nice try, spinmaster, but the fail is on you. I am attacking the "concept" of english only. Anyone who cheerleads the "concept" is subject to the scrutiny of the concept itself.

I am extending the concept to what the ultimate intention would be. Nothing more, nothing less. I dont live in a box of happy thoughts as they are "told" to me by professional politicians or cable news jockeys.

Lets face facts, the right wing is doing all they can to limit democratic voter turnout. They always have and always will. Just look at wisconsin where the Koch brothers paid thousands of dollars to send out phoney early registration letters to democratic voters only with the wrong dates, days and addresses.

This action by the right wing is all over the country and systemic in nature.

The english only concept is only another tool being used to hurt democratic voter turnout disguised as a patriotic act.

Thomas Jefferson HIMSELF told his young nephew who was in college to "learn the spanish language, as it is a part of america as any other language".

If a founding father can support the spanish language in our country, why cant you Tea Party people?

Peace.

Why don't you just move to a country where spanish is the official language since it seems to be so important to you ??? Give up the bantering. You lose. I quit the argument. I know what I mean and I know whaty I say..........whatever you're drinking clouds your judgement.

Nothing clouds my judgement. I am on the side of the founding fathers with respect to spanish and its use in this country. If they believed that spanish was to be a big part of this country, then who are the Tea Party or republicans to say this is an english only country?

My dear, the loss goes to the people who differ from our founders.

peace.

Deport Illegal Aliens to Cut Deficit by $1 Trillion Over 10 Years!
lillpop.png
When the “Super Committee” appointed by leaders of the House and Senate convene in September to take on the task of of cutting $1.5 trillion from the federal deficit over the next 10 years, their actions, or inactions, will help answer the question: Will America prosper or perish?
America’s economic problems are rooted in many ways in foolish, imprudent decisions with respect to spending.
An outrageous example is an expense that benefits foreign invaders, those with no legal or moral basis for being here.
I refer to perhaps as many as twenty millionillegal aliens who have ignored America’s borders and immigration laws.
As documented in Reference 1, these people cost American taxpayers $113 billion a year.
Again, illegal aliens, cost American taxpayers $113 billion a year.
As a taxpaying citizen, I wonder why politicians from both sides of the aisle refuse to target this wasteful expense?

Woman, man killed by gunfire in Juárez

By Marisela Ortega Lozano

A 33-year-old woman was gunned down Sunday afternoon at Pascual Orozco and Manuel Ojinaga streets, División del Norte neighborhood, in Juárez, Chihuahua state police said.
María Leticia García Paredes was stepping down from a vehicle when several gunmen opened fire against her.
According to Juárez news outlets, the woman was a matachín dancer and was chased down by her killers.
Early morning Monday, a 36-year old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being wounded by a firearm, authorities said.
Guillermo Jáuregui Aguilar was riddled with bullets in the Tierra Nueva neighborhood in south Juárez.
No evidence was recovered.
This past weekend Juárez saw 12 style-execution homicides. Two of the victims, both males, were found tied up and gagged in Salvarcar, a rural town near Juárez. The pair was shot several times.
