If you think that’s a solid way of spending your money, don’t let me stop you. You wife won the lottery, right? So money isn’t an issue.
Retirement is an EXCELLENT way to spend your money. Having medical insurance is a necessity. Since you are so concerned, why don't you find me an alternative

I take it you’ve never bought insurance on the open market. COBRA is just paying the entire premium with employer assistance. Millions of people do it every month.
Open market insurance is available for cheaper premiums but you are looking at $8k deductibles and $10k or more max out of pocket.

Paying for 18 months of Cobra and the remainder of retiree insurance that the reimbursement account wont cover.
Well that's a convenient number; almost like it's yet another lie. Guess it's easy for you to remember though, right?

Funny how you would never admit to being oldfart but now you have, without realizing it.

State insurance. As in...insurance offered by.....your state.
My state doesn't have such a plan. It was discontinued when Obamacare came in. We make too much money to get Obamacare at an affordable rate and private insurance has crazy high deductibles and max out of pockets. Been paying Cobra for a while. Just like buying a new home, you get used to the bigger note and you suck it up. Once our 18 months is up, it's time for retiree insurance and the company paid reimbursement account.
And you said retiring was stupidity. Lol. Everyday is Saturday as my retirement planner always tells me. Best move a person can make as long as they saved during their working yrs.
