The old rule was they should be able to withstand being dropped from waist height.
That was a bit excessive but they should still be able to handle a drop of a foot or two.

The sad thing is that even though it probably doesn’t meet UPS shipping standards, they’ll most likely pay it because of the bad publicity it’s created.
