I treat loaning money to a relative as a gift. I don't rely on getting it back and if I do treat it as found money.

Generally not a good idea to loan money to relatives. My sister has owed me money for many years and I have no idea how much. She remembers though and knows exactly how much and promises to pay me some day.

Wrote up a little contract never thinking
I’d see it again

He faithfully showed up every month with $100 until it was paid off

He’s a lawyer now and I haven’t let him forget about it

I loaned 5k once. You know your family and who to trust. Sometimes you should say no.

My sister borrowed about 3G seven or eight years ago because she messed up and owed it in taxes. She also owed me from other times going back at least 30 years. Its not money I ever expect to see again.
