Instead of making a real decision about Meyer the university waffled and gave him a token punishment. If he was really guilty fire him otherwise clear him. The real scumbag is the AD (Gene Smith) who knew what was going on and has a history of blaming others for his own mistakes.
NCAA should give them the death penalty.

It had nothing to do with NCAA violations. Just allegations from the crazy ex wife of a former assistant coach. Whose own mother said she lied about. Its about her trying to score some Benjamins. But of course these days all you need to do is blame someone for something that happened years ago and they are automatically guilty.

How long was the AD suspension?

Is that what coach Meyer told you? Lol

Apparently you haven't kept up with it. The AD was suspended.

And I'm not sure how's he's supposed to be held more liable than Meyer for his assistant coach.

I see now Smith was suspended for a couple of weeks. That wasn't in the initial reports.

The AD is where the buck (and blame) are supposed to stop. Meyer reported the allegations to Smith who did nothing about it. I'm not sure what he was supposed to do though. What got the asst coach fired was violating a restraining order when he was dropping his kids off. Not for spousal abuse. Sadly allegations are all it takes these days. No proof required.

Meyers contract states that he turn in a written report of any incidents such as this. He didn't do it.

Smith told Meyer to fire the coach a few years back and he wouldn't do it. The guy was obviously a pretty bad role model for kids.

Domestic abuse
DUI
drug and alcohol abuse
Affair with a football dept secretary

These are only the things we know about. Tons of stuff gets covered up by athletic departments so who knows what else there was.

There was ample warning. Guy should have been fired years ago.

The university decided he didn't break any rules but they have to do something because it looks bad.

University actions based upon the independent review:

The President and the members of the Board of Trustees of the University have received the Report of the Independent Investigation and find it to be complete, professionally done and credible. The President has consulted with the Board of Trustees and based upon these independent findings, the University accepts the findings of the report and, based on them, takes the following action:

Although neither Urban Meyer nor Gene Smith condoned or covered up the alleged domestic abuse by Zach Smith, they failed to take sufficient management action relating to Zach Smith’s misconduct and retained an Assistant Coach who was not performing as an appropriate role model for OSU student-athletes. Permitting such misconduct to continue is not consistent with the values of the University and reflects poorly on Coach Meyer, Athletic Director Smith, and the University. Their handling of this matter did not exhibit the kind of leadership and high standards that we expect of our Athletic Director, Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and all on the football staff. Urban Meyer is suspended through September 2, 2018, and for the games on September 1, 8 and 15 without pay. Gene Smith is suspended without pay from August 31-September 16.

Yes they said Meyer didn't purposely cover it up he simply misunderstood what was expected of him.

Walking a mighty fine line there.
