They are teaching that you read math problems like that differently than in the past. I guess because they are too used to doing things with a keyboard instead of writing it out on paper.

I’d like some proof of that. Order of operations is one of the fundamental rules of math once you start equations. You can’t change the rules

Rules don't change but I think the kids are being taught to read problems differently now. Still PEMDAS.
