Sure you want us to imagine this. But the truth is that capitalism spurs innovation. It creates amazing things not just for comfort but for advancement of necessities as well. This apocalyptic future you speak of has been lived out by every attempt at socialism so far. Ask an old Soviet how comfortable their cushions were when everyone around them was starving.

it doesnt work. its in a bubble like US housing market was. and then it will pop.
And the weak companies won't survive, forcing others to run better. Things crash, and they build back up again. Natural business cycles. The system you want holds everyone back, stymies progress. Can you tell us the great innovations that came out of communist countries?

We've been capitalist for quite awhile. We've gone through many boom/bust cycles. Civilization isn't going to just collapse. For that to happen we'd have to have a huge natural event, like a super volcano erupting or a huge meteor strike, or we'd have to have an all out nuclear war. Stopping capitalism will just make most people poor.

People have been predicting the end of the world forever. We were supposed to see the end decades ago. When 2040 comes and goes the goalposts will be moved yet again.
