Hedge funds are selling the stock because they shorted it.
How can hedge funds “borrow” 140% of a stock and dump it all on the market. It’s rigging the game in your favor

Because shares are that have already been shorted some several times over are being borrowed from parties who hold them. Mark Cuban has the right idea. New positions cannot be traded for 24 hours. Art Cashin who has seen more than his share of historic short squeeze efforts pointed out that the people in those Reddit chatrooms are not all just crazy kids trying to game the market but rather pros egging the kids on.

Class action suit against Robinhood has already been filed. The fine will probably be less than they would have lost though.
Maybe they'll lose many accounts over this also
