How many people balance their checkbook, have a monthly budget, know what's in their investments, open a paper bill and look at the charges, take advantage of cash discounts or Credit Card programs, ask for discounts or buy when on sale? It makes me wonder how many people have no idea where their money goes. We are a "pay myself first" family and probably a dying breed.

I have a pretty good track record of taking a small profit and reinvesting with house money. Singles and doubles for me, no need to hit a home run. Up markets make millionaires, but down markets make billionaires.

The big banks report 3rd quarter earnings on Friday. That data will give the markets a good idea how strong the economy still is. No company to my knowledge has tipped their hat as to earnings and profits prior to the releases.
