My mother, who was deaf, told me that when Cochlear implants came out a lot of deaf people were vehemently against them. They have a whole culture centered around being deaf and felt that “fixing” deaf children somehow made it seem as if they shouldn’t have their culture and that it was bad. Without reading the article, I would imagine some little people probably have some of the same feelings.

I get it, but IMO, a parent should do anything possible to give their child as “normal” a life as possible. My mother didn’t go along with not “fixing” the children. She got implants as soon as she could get them ….then only used them for a short time. Lol.
