Ground to absorb Express

They've looked at this from every possible angle. If there was a way to do it that would make them more money, they'd be doing it that way. Guess what? There isn't.

Couldn't possibly be the fear that they might have to deal with a union if they merged into one unit.

UPS being an anomaly notwithstanding.

The inherent efficiencies of consolidation are conveniently dismissed because doing so introduces the spectre of unionization, the deathknell of lower echelon abilities in management that FedEx embraces.
That might have been true 10 years ago but seeing the complete failure of unionizing Freight I really doubt Express would be easier.

The fear of possible unionization is to corporate FedEx, as fear of Trump is to Democrats. Irrational, but it dominates their thinking.

Guys, what is you're real wage? What is the only wage you can be sure of? The only wage X by law is required to pay? $7.25 an hour except is those states that have a higher minimum. The only support of your wage and benefit package you have is X's willingness to support it. Support that it can lower or eliminate at any time of their choosing for whatever reason it chooses. Giving the absence of a binding negotiated labor contract does any other means of wage support exist other than what X is willing to support?

I bet Fred has trouble sleeping at night worrying about a Union.
Fred has been quoted on record that if FedEx ever unionized, he would "close the doors". While that may no longer be a viable plan, it goes to the root of the totally anti-union stance that corporate FedEx embraces.

People vote on a union and lose their job on the process. What did they win?
