ive been there . no one is climbing over that wall. put some sound detection in for the tunnels and it will definitely do the job. if however you have a partial wall then illegals will simply go around it.

You didn't read the article. The flow of drugs into the US and the flow of $/guns into Mexico has not been slowed. The supply and demand of drugs is interconnected with the flow of undocumented. A wall will not stop the demand. They will just go over it, around it, or under it.
