If UPS wants to cut us all a $20,000 Covid check, I'd take a wage freeze this contract - Come on back.
That is definitely an all time Top 10 stupid comment on this site, and it's quite hard to break into Top 10 stupid on here with the characters n clowns passing thru. $20,000 upfront and then taxes out of that, then a 5 year wage freeze and you gained NOTHING!!!! Are you that misguided or can't comprehend simple math?

But I offer you my congratulations!!

I have so much disdain for UPS yet can't blame them for treating us all like collective idiots and trying to pull tricks on us time and time again.
It's like when you get pissed off going to buy a new car and they treat you like an idiot asking for sticker price or more and flushing in so many ridiculous extra charges on window sticker because the previous buyers who came before you blindly pay....
NEXT SUCKER....STEP RIGHT UP!!
You are hopping mad but can you blame them for trying?

Same case here, unfortunately you can't blame UPS in the long run because they know damn well although there are some smart guys in the ranks, the majority of union members are plain and simple damn pushover fools. You 100% just proved that.

I have been with UPS since 91. Management has always treated us like crap. Playing one employee against another was common practice when I first started. It has gotten worse over the years we laugh when they bring up integrity, they lie every single day. There is going to be a change in managements attitude for the simple reason that they have had all their perks taken away. They are going to be angry because we will have benefited again with this new contract.

Our Ceo made 32 million last year with bonuses, she has only 3 yrs with the company.
I don't know how much the lower executives received but I'm sure it was plenty.
Our company is nationwide and International, we are not closing the doors anytime soon.
And they have always put their costs on customers, fuel charges.

So is passing on the cost to the customer your strategy ?

If it was that easy ups would had been marked up the cost for service higher than it is marked up today.

I am just saying that they will pass any and all cost onto the customer no matter what happens with our contract.

You've made the mistake in assuming I meant $20,000 BEFORE taxes. I meant $20,000 direct deposited into my account AFTER taxes big VV. Couple that with the fact that a $1 raise per year is about $2200/yr before taxes. Yes.. sign me up for the wage freeze.

Yeah that’s not gonna happen so let’s Move on.

Only way outs inna box
The stockholders and corporate heads will lose some money, those losses will be passed onto the consumer with increased shipping prices, negligible when you spread it out over tens of millions of boxes. Low seniority drivers and inside workers will be laid off, and nobody will be hired for a bit. The union will get new due paying members from Amazon and FedEx to make up the losses or a bailout from Joe, all this heavy handedness is to win them over. In the end the house wins and the people who would benefit from whatever it is the union wants in the contract won’t have a job to take advantage of it.
I can see your point on fat getting trimmed if we lost customers temporarily and the volume isn’t consistent, I hope that no one that needs this career gets cut. Dont think it would be permanent. They will come back, like a dog goes back to its vomit. We offer what other providers dont…and that is service.

Nice idea but ain't happening and doesn't work like that buddy. If so then you are assuming them giving you approx $27,000-30,000 to get $20,000 after taxes.

Also, how many years do you have in? If you were ready to retire very soon (like me) you can think very selfishly and want the $20,000 upfront and screw everyone behind you with not so many years in on a wage freeze.....which I wouldn't do as that's being a prick.

So having said that if you still have a decent amount of years to work here you have to think long game and compound that raise out not just over 5 years but many more contracts down the road. And that would also lower your overtime pay greatly long term. That $20,000 will be chump change to a guy that has quite a ways to go. And as I mentioned just flat out screwing everyone who is to come after us.

Gotta think things thru before you put "pen to paper" my friend.

Didn’t they just do that with Surepost..?

A couple of years ago… $ 25 dollar surcharge on packages over 50 lbs…

A large package surcharge of over 100 dollars…

Raising shipping rates annually 6 percent…

Fedex and the Post Office were raising their rates also, part of the course. Nothing new…

Some of us could work from home. We can do that even today. You drive the truck not me.

You are the one who is bent out of shape when you got asked to work instead of taking a vacation. Refer back to original statement.

Overtime is a part of the job, whether you want it or not.

Showing your true colors now, its hot outside yup no doubt about that, you picked the job that requires you to work outside. Fair weather driver only?

Ya, I won't be delivering any packages in August, but if I do it will be from air conditioned rental SUV..suck it measter.
Yes it turns out a lot of people get mad about a lot of things and suffer a lot of excessive overtime...

So anyways I see this contract expiring in 18 days.

If the Teamsters strike UPS and it goes on longer than a month (maybe 3 weeks)......

both sides are totally screwed.

UPS market cap will fall from $160 billion to about $80 billion, and union employees will all be competing for jobs flipping hamburgers.

It's so cute you think Blackstone and Vanguard will let that happen.
