I don't know if Trump was elected for the purpose to "stand up" to Putin.
Maybe Trump made a promise. Maybe he didn't. I don't remember, and I don't care.
It's sooo simple that I would expect it would fly over the head of a person who is educated beyond his intelligence. So I'll explain it from the perspective of a person who as you like to put it: "barely graduated high school"
Very many people voted for Trump so that sanctimonious, condescending, holier-than-thou liberals would be very angry, cry rivers of tears, and scatter like cockroaches. As long as those very simple things are happening, then all is going well.
You should ponder the notion that it really isn't all about Russia, Ukraine, or the price of eggs.
