If you work too hard...they will take advantage of you.......and still throw you ,under the busYour hard work will be noticed. You won't get paid any more for it, but someone may remember it when you make a mistake, and it could help cushion any discipline that you might receive.

Agreed...it's marathon, not a race. The fastest you work, the more work you get. I'll play that game when I start getting paid by the package, instead of by the hour...lolEmployees who try to do the tough guy thing are always the first to get hurt. Gets them absolutely nothing but a story to tell about what a beast they were in preload, delivering, etc while they limp around.
Dulcolax promotes regularity. (I can hear laughing from here....lol)Unions promote mediocrity.

Just be yourself and form your own opinion.I've been a loader for a few months and I was seasonal but they kept me and since then I guess they saw potential in me. I've heard from other coworkers working hard will gain you respect, but nothing else, and to stay an average worker. I defiantly take pride if I do well but let's be honest, is it worth the backbreaking labor to go that extra mile?.

Be safe and don't worry about what people that don't love or care about you think.I've been a loader for a few months and I was seasonal but they kept me and since then I guess they saw potential in me. I defiantly take pride if I do well but let's be honest, is it worth the backbreaking labor to go that extra mile? Would you rather work very hard and have respect or be average and have less expected? You're still getting the same amount of $ obviously.
Ask Canada why they still have doctors? As for myself, I take pride in my work...union or not!......I get paid to do a job and I do it the best that I can....its called work ethicUpstate is absolutely right. I was going to say the same thing but he beat me to it.
The posts in this very thread proves the attitude towards the work ethic we end up practicing. Since union pay doesn't correlate with work performance, few will go above and beyond "average". Everyone makes the same top rate. The best driver and the worst driver. Why be the best driver?
Unions are just like socialism and communism. Systems that don't promote self improvement and therefore society doesn't advance. That's why the best economies and best quality of life is always found where there is free market capitalism. Most people need incentive to work hard and do more than the minimum in life. That incentive comes down to money.
Let me ask you this. What do you think a society would look like if there was only one rate of pay no matter what you did? Being a doctor would pay no more than the simplest of jobs for example. How many doctors do you think we'd have?
Life in the big city???How do you justify one Teamster making over $30/hr. and another Teamster making $30 a day with no benefits? It wasn't always like this.
Unions promote mediocrity.
