I'm sorry (not really) to interrupt this meeting of the mindless above but getting back to the issue of ISIS/ISIL, good piece on an idea for a solution.

DO NOTHING!

Mexican drug cartels are worse than ISIL - Aljazeera

Western obsession with the Islamic State is fueled more by bigotry than any genuine assessment of risk or atrocities

The horrific rampage of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has captured the world’s attention. Many Western commentators have characterized ISIL’s crimes as unique, no longer practiced anywhere else in the civilized world. They argue that the group’s barbarism is intrinsically Islamic, a product of the aggressive and archaic worldview that dominates the Muslim world. The ignorance of these claims is stunning.

While there other organized groups whose depravity and threat to the United States far surpasses that of ISIL, none have engendered the same kind of collective indignation and hysteria. This raises a question: Are Americans primarily concerned with ISIL’s atrocities or with the fact that Muslims are committing these crimes?

For example, even as the U.S. media and policymakers radically inflate ISIL’s threat to the Middle East and United States, most Americans appear to be unaware of the scale of the atrocities committed by Mexican drug cartels and the threat they pose to the United States.

Since you just copied without comment, I'll assume you were asking for thoughts on the only question raised.

What are your thoughts?

Mine are, that we only care when the victims look more like 'us'. As long as 'they' kill each other, we don't really care. Like the Onion Ebola headline...50 White people from a cure.

The article makes a lot of valid points.

The only point it made was contained in the subtitle of the article:

Yep. Pretty much it, in a nutshell.

Is it that totally, or is it as much the attitude of indifference a lot of Americans have towards Mexicans, as if they are disposable?

Is this honestly an acceptable ratio? Disgusting.
Us Led Air Strikes Killed 521 Fighters, 32 Civilians

The Germans didn't seem too worried about killing civilians when they were bombing hell out of Great Britain.

The nature of war suggests there will be collateral damage.

Let's talk about how many lives were saved by the actions referred to.

Ok, let's talk about it, how many lives were saved by the action of murdering 32 innocent civilians... men, women and children. You tell me, how many lives did that save? Give me a number since you've apparently managed to come up with one to rationalize away your humanity.

At what point does this become unacceptable?

It doesn't. These muslim fighters don't wear military units with their name and rank on them. They wear jeans and black do rags over their faces, so they can go hide their guns and pretend they're just civilians trying to flee isis. With that being the case, carpet bomb their major held cities, sucks for the innocents, but if you have cancer that's spreading, do you want to just try and go after it piece by piece, or take out the whole area (if possible) and be done with it?

I'm all for the latter
