Lay off status for 3.5 weeks. Is this normal?

Sounds like they are trying to turn you into a seasonal driver by laying you off so you don't make book. They have froze hiring until after labor day so all new hires will be seasonal is what my supervisor told me a few weeks ago. Sorry man but you have a choice to walk away or get used and abused for the next 3 months.
