Its like what the Tea party is to the republican party only with brains. It tries to push the leadership to make reforms that would be beneficial to the rank and file. In 1991 it was able to get its candidate Ron Carey as well as numerous TDU members into office and it was very influential while he was in office. You might not like their left wing ideology but maybe we should be questioning YOUR Teamster credentials since unions are supposed to be left wing!!
With TDU there are no brains just spite. It's a hate organization plain and simple. We all start out liking TDU. All of us do but as you grow up you see the pure hate. Nothing I mean nothing the international does is ever recognized. I challenge you to find "one" one single article they have put out that is positive about the international. Find it

There is one cold, hard fact that is indisputable about TDU.
If the IBT was doing a decent job in the eyes of their members for any significant period of time, TDU would go by the wayside like APWA did.
Instead, the opposite is happening and the IBT hard liners are feeling the warm breath of TDU on the back of their necks and are obviously nervous.
I am not a member and am not a privy to the numbers, but am willing to bet their new memberships are way up.
In my mind, the reform that TDU preaches, is better than the rumblings of decertification that I am starting to hear around my state.
That, in my mind, would be a huge, irreparable mistake.
One way or another, we need to wake up and take our union back.

There is more than one....

TDU is a lot like the APWA was.... More of an annoyance, or distraction.

I am not a member and am not a privy to the numbers, but am willing to bet their new memberships are way up.

My guess is, there are more "sympathizers" than actual paid members.

In my mind, the reform that TDU preaches, is better than the rumblings of decertification that I am starting to hear around my state.

A few people might grumble about decertification.

But, if confronted with actually signing a petition....

They would probably walk away as fast, as if you asked them to contribute to D.R.I.V.E.

One way or another, we need to wake up and take our union back.

Active involvement in their Local, would be a great start.

Here are the facts the way I see it:
The IBT is doing more than a decent job. People just like to look at the negative. For example hall and Jimmy Hoffa save approximately 40,000 jobs at YRC that TDU never talks about.
APWA went by the wayside because they wanted people to join or start another union. TDU just wants to destroy unions.
I am not an IBT hardliner but I do support my leadership. If it changes (hopefully not) I will support the new leadership. They doesn't mean you have to agree with everything they do.
As do you I know TDU and from experience they are not good for the Union it's easy to talk a good game it's a lot harder to back it up with results. Don't just say what's wrong help come up with a solution to the problem. They don't do that. Don't get me wrong I understand your concerns with moving from one plan to another and I get it. But the negotiating committee had to come up with a solution that both sides could agree on. It isn't as easy as saying you have deep pockets show me the money. I think you will have the opportunity some day soon to realize that. Anyone can say I would have rather paid a premium co pay than switch. That's easy to say after the fact. Just like the people last contract that said we make too much money I don't care about the raises then were ticked off when they got them and it was split. You get the point.
Decertification will not in my opinion legally happen RTW might and that will be terrible for all of us.

Don't talk about YRC. You obviously know nothing about it. I have a friend who has worked for YRC over 20 years. He is still working there, but let's just say he's looking for another job. Loss of Pension contributions. Has to pay a lot more for health care. Next to no pay increases for the near future, after taking massive pay cuts. He is pissed. Way to go Hoffa.

The oldest joke at the freight barns is....

"Shut the company down... close the doors !"

"I was looking for a job when I came here !"

The folks at YRC, have less of an understanding about their company....

Than the people at UPS.

I know a lot more about YRC than you. I have several friends that work there not just one. HE has the right to go look for another job. One where isn't going to make the same amount of money, that has no healthcare (what fund is he in that he has to pay for healthcare), no pension, no vacations, no holidays, no seniority. He is still working there for a reason.

Yeah that was the only option to shut the doors down, Or accept a crappy contract. Another Hoffa victory. Too bad the only ones who are celebrating is the company and Hoffa.

Of course you've negotiated hundreds of contracts and you know what it takes to protect jobs. You are out of touch with reality. But should I be shocked your comments are typical TDU.

What hatred can you post here that came from a TDU member, or supporter?
I can post tons of stuff from you, stink and 407 that shows the hatred. And you know it.

Everything. "Too bad the only ones who are celebrating is the company and Hoffa". "Way to go Hoffa" How's that for starters? Just in case you weren't paying attention those are your posts.

After Hoffa and the IBT caved in on YRC, it was revealed how much their CEO was paid. Some ridiculous amount of course in the millions.

When UPS kicked our azzes after making well over $4.4 billion in the worse contract to date in UPS Teamster history, the company celebrated that Hoffa and Hall sold out and kicked the crap out of the members.

I've asked once before. Hoffa Jr., hall and the IBT either sold us out or they are just plain out incompetent to have accepted such bad deal? So take your pick.

How is it that UPS made more money than in previous contract, and we got a worse deal than the previous contract. Damn, I didn't like the previous contract but it was better than this garbage they are trying to ram up our rectums today.
