Lost another brother.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.
My first stop was a bulk stop. Once I got them out of the way, I could usually walk through my PC. While I was there, I'd park out of the way and sort and set up my whole day. Not stop for stop, but close. I'd make note if there was any wind blowing and park appropriately. Open my back door and bulkhead door. Might take 10-15 minutes. I'd be soaking wet afterward. This minimized the time I spent in the back during the heat of the day. I'd take an hour at lunch and sit in AC. I brought water in a jug and had a rule. Anytime I'd walk by a water fountain, I made myself drink for at least 20 seconds. I also had a convenience store I drove by every afternoon. It had the coldest Gatorade around. I'd buy 1 or 2 bottles every day. I only remember getting sick from the heat one time. I was puking in a woman's ditch and she actually called UPS out of concern for me. Center manager came out and had to finish my route. He was pissed. oh well.
I worked in the northeast, summers can be brutal with the humidity. I brought water, and stopped and got whatever I needed as needed. I did this year in and year out. I never got dehydrated. Heat stroke is no joke, and I always took care to pay attention to my body. It’s a brutal job at times, it’s up to you to take care of yourself in every season. We’re just a means to an end for the company.

I encourage everyone to contribute to his go fund me page. Link is in the article. It will help his family through this hard time. He is up to about 20K. 95% is small donations like $5-$25. It’s nice to see people still willing to help other people in their time of need.

It’s the heat in the back that gets you. In our building at least it’s always the summer when they cut routes and blow up your start count and load quality drops. I’ve gone down twice in my career, always on a Thursday or Friday. Accumulative dehydration and exhaustion starting from Monday. I’ve always had problems staying hydrated. I’ll drink a gallon and a half of water on top of a watered down Gatorade and or liquid IV and still only go to the bathroom maybe once throughout the day. Too much sweat. Come home and take an ice cold shower and get out and immediately turn red and hot again. I don’t think AC will ever be a thing for the cars and I don’t think it would really work anyways but these fans they are putting in actually do help. There’s definitely more to be done about cooling down the back of the car. Those foot vents we have there should be two in the front of the cargo area to bring air in and two in the back facing the other direction to bring air out. That vent that goes over the passenger seat and into the cargo area is always plugged up with junk and dead bugs and they don’t label the lever so you never know if it’s actually open and there’s no way to tell.

I think the fans do help. Didnt have them for 2/3 of my time in a pkg car. Had to wear long pants for 1/3 of my time also. The guys that complain the fans just blow hot air at you are the very FIRST to get the mechanic to get it replaced when theirs malfunctions. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate

Will take the extreme heat over the ice and below zero temps some of you here endure.

Dear IE lower SPC/plan a bit June-Sept….or get out in the car with me.

I was happy to have a fan..dump water on my head. Speed to next stop, all good..but then they wouldn't give me a fan in a different truck. I survived, but dang, just a fan...

“It won’t gig you for taking a drink. We want you to stay hydrated.”

It gigs me every damn time I take a sip of water.
Yep….on the interstate….1/8 possible 1/4 of mile space ahead of me with out traffic…..Drink with eyes still on road ahead…GIG…maybe it was the FRESCA can that triggered the violation?

“DISTRACTED!”

It’s worse than having my wife in the truck.

Yeah, I get it though. I try and skip lunch as well just because I like making the money. Just have to watch it in the heat.
I hate to admit it but I do the same. 1/2 hr of OT at $60/hr I will milk the clock. Until I feel it. Than I pull over and take a break. 66 years old no sup is going to say anything.

Anymore I will take the cold over the heat and humidity. Never used to be that way. Could be an age thing.

Exact opposite for me i used to not mind the cold, now I hate it. Every part of my body hurts when it’s freezing. Super hot temperatures are no fun either but I can handle them. I’m completely miserable when it’s in the teens or below all day.

A lot depends on your definition of freezing. 10 below and dry is better then 32 and wet. 90 degrees and 90% humidify is worse then 100 and 5% humidly.
