we live in the high sierra where "storms" like this are common place. in one month we had 199 inches and we are 1000 feet below the donner summit which got more than that.
it makes the local news but hardly the national. the media on the east coast needed a story so they are using this.
poster that said that people are stupid is pretty much right. out here people have something called "common sense" born out of experience. people that came out west seem to be a hardier lot. we are mostly prepared for emergencies. everyone on my block has generators, back up food supplies, extra gas for vehicles. 4WD trucks and cars, etc, etc.
we could go several months without power and getting to a grocery story.
and it doesn't make sense to me that people on the east coast couldn't do the same. last winter was a bear on the east coast. people should of learned by now.
any of you east UPSers can come stay with us if you come out here and we'll show you how it's done.
