Monday being Monday

UPS should learn to plan better.

They could not have planned any better in my center. They put the most routes on road ever to handle the highest number of packages ever. We hired more drivers and helpers than we ever did. We worked every Saturday between BF and CE to take the edge of the following Monday and Tuesday, which worked out quite well for most drivers. Weather has not been a major issue for us.

I was a bit surprised when they told us yesterday that our air was end of day rather than 90 minutes relaxed as it has always been in past Peaks.

I'm asking ??...how is it that most of the country is understaffed and overwhelmed. Yet the BOG is maintaining this level of operation

We have never run 44 routes or processed 18K or more in a single day before this year yet we are still advancing loads and have not rolled a single package. Weather will not be an issue the rest of the week and we should be clean going in to CE.

They are telling us that we should expect to be this busy next week and that they will be keeping all of the Peak routes on road.

How is it that your center can run more routes than ever, have enough staff, or equipment to meet these needs.......while the rest of the country has SQUAT....ZERO, as far as staffing or necessary vehicles to service the needs of our customers
Being "busy", as you describe it is one thing......being totally blown away is something different

I know it makes ppl feel good to tell ups to shove it but we are only hurting ourselves.

We will be destroyed in the media if customers don't get their stuff because drivers
If corporate decided to staff the operation like they did two years ago we wouldn't be having this discussion. Shareowners were not very happy with the increased payroll though.
Seems Atlanta is more concerned with the stockholders than they are with any negative media.

In most locations we will need to work this Saturday because of customers ordering stuff late. Not because of being under staffed.

GOOD!! And then how about maybe UPS can let these people sign some waivers of release and drive with us for a day or week and lets see what they have to say after that. Sure those mouths will be a little numb in more ways than one.

If I remember correctly both ourselves and FedEx were slammed in the media a few years back and guess what.......we appear to still be thriving from the looks of things.

"Brownslave".......do you personally WANT to work Saturday? Or are you working because you are being so called FORCED to work??
I mean if you don't want to and you say you are working because customers ordered stuff late, which is the case every single year. Why do you take it upon yourself to trash your Saturday and play the hero for other peoples tardiness?
Take the day off......enjoy yourself......and let them sweat it.....not your fault.

As my old union steward told me when I was a rookie many many years ago......"Don't sweat the petty things, but pet the sweaty things".

Think about yourself for a change......there's nothing wrong with that.

I have to disagree here Upstate.....management didn't have a great plan in place for your particular area. They just shoved "your forced to work Saturday" down your throats and you all went with it.
Intimidation and great planning are totally separate buddy.
