More gloom and doom..CS is tanking

That's a very nice thought on your part wkmac (willing to donate a raise or part of one) to help bail out CS pension problems) but it will never happen. Check out Brownslaves comment #299 and that sums up the majority of UPS employees now days. UPS is full of Brownslave types now and therein lies the whole problem---every man for himself. All my working career I made it know that if UPS was truly hurting and could prove it I would be more than willing to take a pay cut to bail out my livelihood. In a way its sad that the old time employees were all willing to do what was necessary to protect their livelihood but now for the most part the Brownslaves of the world wouldn't even help out a fellow Teamster. JMO

For years we diverted a lot of new money from contracts into health and welfare instead of pay increases that would mostly end up as taxes anyway.

And I disagree with Brownslave too and yes, his opinion is likely a strong majority. Thus the real reason unions are dying.

I may hold a lot of views that many here disapprove of and not that I give a "friend" either as most well know who know me but I do believe we should step up and take care of our own. I'd give up those raises and not bat an eye about it. Even for folks who disagree with me in other areas. Even for Brownslave too. That is what brotherhood really means IMO.

And the new UPS'ers are giving it all away because they won't stick together and stand up to protect what was fought for years ago. Every man for himself.

Not picking on Brownslave here but I do think he holds a majority opinion on the matter.

I respect the thought but no way am I giving up my raises to patch a system that I see as broken.

Now that said, why should the new hands step up when the old hands abandoned ship years ago and refuse to get back on board?

Again, it's not Corp. America, the GOP, Koch Bros or pick your boogey man that is killing the unions, WE and I said WE are killing the Union.

Lol it's not that I wouldn't help a fellow teamster. It's that I feel the pension system doesn't work and is corrupt.

So I should blindly help someone out even though I don't feel it's the right thing to do?

I would say for most it comes down to not trusting the Union leaders.

I mean look at local 89 along with a few others. I truely feel even if we had voted down this last contract as a whole the unions answer would of been well this is what your getting.

It is broken. It is corrupt. That we do agree on. And any offer to mitigate the damage will come at a cost to the present way and form of the union and how it operates. Otherwise we would be throwing good money after bad.

Ah..your the building maintenance man.. No wonder you drive a 20yr old car.. You know how to keep it running! As far as brown, he is the majority, for yrs the multi employer pension bankrupting the system has been a hot topic, people want ups to take care of ups employees

Now that said, why should the new hands step up when the old hands abandoned ship years ago and refuse to get back on board?

U wanna know another problem? All u guys with lazy ass wives who stay at home and spend your money. I'm 30, been full time for 4 years. I made sure my wife went to school, not just for me but for her. I want her to feel like she has her own nest egg and spending money. I bought a new house when I topped out last year for 250k, sold my old starter house an made a nice 35k profit. I dump 5% into a Roth 401k, 2 into my 401k and I also put money away into a Roth ira. We still make enough to travel, save ect. I own nice cars, go out often and live the good life. Nice cars and nice things isn't the problem. Lazy ass wives and kids are.

Every raise I get from here on out is going straight for retirement. I don't understand how you 40 something's can't dump at minimum 10-15% into a retirement account. Another option once you have 150k or so is to buy a house cash and rent it out. That is a steady 1200 a month to add to your retirement, with a good possibility that within 15 years it will be worth double both equity wise and rent wise Maybe I have no clue what I'm talking about, but compared to my peers I'm 10 steps ahead of them. Iv seen my parents screw it all up and it will not be me. I'm going to a foreign country this year to look at a piece of property to buy real soon. This said country my wifes family are citizens of, it has universal health care, and the bang for buck is great. I want to be out of the work force doing my own money making one way or another by 50. We are blessed to make 90k a year and should enjoy it a bit but also be smart

I couldn't agree with a post more minus the wife. This is exactly why I can't see myself getting married or having kids. For what, to be unhappy and lose all my money that I worked for, not to mention my time.

It's simple, u want to have kids be ready. Your other half should have an education. There is nothing wrong with taking 5 or so years off to raise your kids, but most wives never go back to work. Their husband makes all the money, they get an allowance, they get mad, want a divorce and now mr ups man Is getting bent over by child support and alimony. Mean while the wife is hanging with other guys, and refuses to get married so she can keep the alimony. Kids are over rated. All my friends who have them get drunk and all I hear is their envy and talk about how their relationship isn't the "way it used to be". This career we have is not good for kids

If educated and well paid wife has kids, cutting back for 5-7 years while she takes care of th is understandable. She can rejoin the work force and contribute to the household, but ups drivers can't whipe their own ass, go grocery shopping or cook so they would rather their wife stay home all day and do all that for them while making phone calls to your insurance on your behalf and all the other stuff we are too "tired" to do after our long day at work. This is a :censored2:ty world we live in ans its getting worse, I feel in most people's situation it's selfish to even have kids.

You want a stay at home wife? Don't cry when your working till 65.
