Negotiations

The central has no sick days. It’s never really been an issue before. You call in when needed but don’t get paid. Over the last few years they have started moving to progressive discipline with a single call in. We had a guy call in for the first time in his 7 years here and he got a documented talk with.

Because of this there is no chance the central will pass without sick days.
I didn't even know sick days was a contract issue in the Central.

Yep during negotiations last month the company agreed to a proposal to allow one week of vacation to be split up and taken as call in/sick days then the last week of negotiations, they reneged, and said no, we don’t agree to that. Actually, I believe the exact words were they wanted to charge you with an occurrence if you used it lol.

So we lose a weeks vacation for a week of sick pay? We already are able to split up 2 weeks of vacation for single days. Everyone knows discipline for calling in sick will go no where. I think members should be disciplined for not calling in when sick and spreading their germs to everyone else. Hangovers do not count.

Single days have to be approved ahead of time. And no you didn’t have to it was an option. And it doesn’t matter either way the company reneged on their offer. The point was in the central sick days were a top or proposal from members. Disciplining someone for being sick might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, but then again I will consider the source.

You can't expect people to never get sick

I remember before submitting proposals comparing the different suppliments to central. Including our 2 option days, and the option days swapped out for an option week of vacation (5 days) we are i think.... 2 or 3 plus days behind other suppliments with what they get. Yeah.... no sick days added in is an automatic no for me.

We get vacation weeks, two weeks of single days, and seven sick days. Don't settle.

Our BA literally just told us we can still be charged if they burn one of our days when we call on.

And I’m sorry but “allowing” us to split a vacation week into sick days will never fly either. I am extremely disappointed to hear our union leaders thought it would. Every other supplement gets some form of sick time. The central deserves that ON TOP OF the time we already get.

There is nothing in my locals contract about attendance so they can try to discipline all they want

No disagreement from me, but I have no idea what the other proposals that were not agree too were. Only the fact that they were giving flexibility for vacation days to be used as sick or call in days. Personally for me I would love it because it would be Friday or Monday. Extending my weekends as I already have seven weeks of vacation would give me more days off if I chose that route.
