I'm an AARPer.
I also belong to their auto club.

Is there a reason not to join AARP?

I shy away from any organization or business who floods my mailbox with crap. They are more or less a big political lobbying group whos ideas I don't 100% agree with. I'm a member of the VFW, the Patriot Guard and "Hog" ---that's about the extent of my joining "clubs". AARP has slowed down on their mailings (maybe they finally got the hint ) but they still send me a "temporary' AARP card a couple times a year. I have used it to get a discount at motels.

AARP has become too much of a political lobby group instead of sticking to its core purpose of assisting retired people. I don't like them and never plan to join.

My exact thoughts too. They seem to be involved with everything except what they were organized for. To me they are just another political group with their hand out for money.
