cuban missile crisis for one

youre correct nuclear war is mutually assured destruction but guys in govt toy with it all the time
Who is toying with it? The Russians were trying to sneak missiles into Cuba. We not only have much more sophisticated detecting equipment today but they also have nuclear subs like we do that could make for a surprise attack. But they aren't going to do it unless they are being overrun by foreign troops and having nothing left to lose. Even then it's unlikely.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

The Russians didn’t like the fact that we had nuclear missiles in Turkey, which were quietly removed after the Cuba incident as part of a deal Kennedy made with Russia.

Russia was the Soviet Union then, and plans were made to destroy the U.S. with a preemptive strike from Cuba. A British businessman was receiving on behalf of British intelligence top secret documents from a high up Russian official that exposed that. That led to the Cuban Missile Crisis. That was 61 years ago. Today both countries have nuclear subs that, if ICBM's were launched preemptively in hopes of knocking out the other country, those subs could retaliate. So the only real way it's likely to happen is if the country was being overwhelmed by invading troops and felt it was their only.option. They aren't going to strike us over Ukraine. Putin might use small tactical nukes to beat Ukraine if he's losing. But that would for sure isolate Russia economically. There's more to it than just shooting off nukes because you're mad.

Strength through joy

A Texas bill that would require electric vehicle owners to pay an annual $200 fee to register their cars has already passed both chambers in the state legislature with unanimous support.
"As more of these vehicles drive on Texas roads, there are concerns about how they contribute to the funding of the roads which they use," Sen. Robert Nichols said. "Currently, Texas uses the gasoline/diesel fuel tax to fund transportation projects; however, with the growing use of EVs, the revenue from the fuel tax is decreasing, which diminishes our ability to fund road improvements for all drivers."
Nichols added EV drivers should be "subject to an equalization of road use consumption amount" since they use the same roads as everyone else.
