If I don’t have kids can I retire young?

no doubts but could happen. Our biggest issue years ago at marriage counseling was she keeps volunteering for work on weekends and another hospital after her regular hospital job. He laughed at me, said most issues is they wont work, She is the one pushing me to retire more than I wanted to and still is. When 55 maybe just pay the insurance and she can retire early but I am sure she wont. She never ever ever complains about her job. She is a keeper!!! I just have to stop the what ifs and start enjoying now while I am young and healthy. Maybe I get sick of it not working. I have a CDL also so can find work about anywhere, doubt I be a mechanic againAnd she's ok with working almost a decade longer than you? Are you sure? My dad had the same type of plan with his wife - to retire six year later than him (she is six years younger than him). Two years into her six year work 'term' she got sick of going to work and watching him golf every day. Now they have to pay for insurance for her. Just an extra expense they weren't counting on.
@scratch says you need to work another decade just to gwt an honorable mentionI will still continue on here until brown cafe is gone!!! I still remember I think it was teamster.net before this, I will still be going to union meetings, will be going to another local that has retire meetings that my parents go to on occasion. I have always been involved in the union. The strike of 97 sparked my interest in it. Been a active member ever since. Helped organize overnight freight before UPS took them over. Spent weeks and weeks before work on the picket line supporting them when Hoffa had them on strike. I maybe would like a job with the Union who knows
you can do anything!!!If I don’t have kids can I retire young?

Yup.Another motherer smarter than me!!!!
My wife still works fulltime and wants to for a couple more years, she started her career late in life and wants to keep working for two more years. I keep telling her to retire, but she's not ready yet. Possibly the thought of being home with me all the time is deterring her.And she's ok with working almost a decade longer than you? There is a woman in my local that handles all pension stuff. She walked me through it. No problemsWhat a pain on the paper work, finding marriage license is like trying to locate a title when selling a car. It's there up until the day it's needed. Did find it!!!!
Need to have HR or sup sign my Resignation date form, I picked June 28th June 27th is my last work day
Wife signed up for life insurance through her work place-
The W4 with holding is complicated- if anyone can help? me and wife have always filed separate
no survivor benefits notarized
figuring out a past job hire date and address from 32 years ago thats been out of business that long is a pain
direct deposit info done
After my vaca week after next I am owed 6 weeks vaca I had planned for summer and fall
concerned I am not applying it at least 90 days in advance as recommended but waiting on pension checks isn't a issue I just want confirmation I am all good- I already did the online check for my retirement and it matched the contract
If anyone can please add stuff I am missing I would greatly appreciate it. Info should be sent this afternoon
You won’t have that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach on Sunday night anymore. Took me awhile to get over thatThanks to you and others with this kind of info, it’s so weird to me! exciting and scary at the same time I started working on a crop farm when when I was 13, then a dairy farm 7 days a week through middle and high school, day I graduated hired into a local dealership as a mechanic and at same time I took classes my associates degree in automotive Just after I graduated dealership was slow so friend got me into UPS at 20 years old and been here ever since. Only time off work was vacation all them years. Never a day in between jobs. This is such a huge change for me
I didn't have any problems with paperwork and getting it started, just the aftermath which no one seemed to see coming which pissed me off that no one at the pension department or useless HR told me to avoid working/retiring on the last day of a month. There is a woman in my local that handles all pension stuff. I've had that during and since school, not so much on the dairy farm when working 7 days a week tho!!!! I've been watching many YouTube videos on people that have retired already. That was brought up by all of themYou won’t have that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach on Sunday night anymore. Took me awhile to get over that
I should be ok using Saturday June 28th? Friday 27th my last work day June 30th is last day of month on Monday. I read your prior post wrong thinking it was good to use last day!!!!!I didn't have any problems with paperwork and getting it started, just the aftermath which no one seemed to see coming which pissed me off that no one at the pension department or useless HR told me to avoid working/retiring on the last day of a month.
Idiots.
If you spend any time reading about retirement online, you are sure to come across articles by people who regret retiring for whatever reason. My advice is to ignore those weirdos.I've had that during and since school, not so much on the dairy farm when working 7 days a week tho!!!! Ignore the other weirdos too. Those people you work with who are in their late sixties with over 40 years in.If you spend any time reading about retirement online, you are sure to come across articles by people who regret retiring for whatever reason. My advice is to ignore those weirdos.

Maybe because you fell under a different plan? I can't remember are you in the UPS/IBT pension plan?
Huh, not sure why I had issues and to be honest I've never heard of anyone else having that same issue. Anyways in the end it worked out just was a pita on my end.UPS and Central States plans
If there is a way to screw it up they will do it. I did have a small issue of my pension being short about a dollar a month. Not enough to fight over but it was an obvious error. It took UPS the full 5 months they are allowed to make corrections to adjust it and add the few dollars of back pay.Huh, not sure why I had issues and to be honest I've never heard of anyone else having that same issue.
