Possible driver death due to heat

One of the hidden problems is that between heat exhaustion and heat stroke you experience mental confusion or unconsciousness, thereby not knowing how to take care of yourself. At that point your internal organs are starting to fail.

I had heat exhaustion one time and it was bad. Even the second day after a full nights sleep I felt awful.
I did the same when I was 42 and it was 3 or 5 days before I felt well again.

I work in this local (not in the same building) and area management has been instructed to deny it was heat related.
Does this surprise you?

...There's been nothing reported in the local news media as of Friday.
UPS must offer the media huge discounts in order to keep things like this quiet. Years ago, we had a guy get killed (accident) while working in our building and never saw a word printed about it in the paper. If it had happened anywhere else, it would have been all over the news.

Regardless of who is to blame here, the bottom line is that one of our own has died doing the same thing we do day after day. I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often. And with Orion, I actually expect that it will.
My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Yep, first warning signs are confusion and possible dizziness. You need to stop, try to cool off, and hydrate when that happens. Hard to do at times when you are scrambling to get things done on your route.
Confusion and dizziness come after signing your letter of intent?

I'm a new driver on packet and its unusually hot in the area I live in. We were told by management to put our water in the freezer so they would stay cold on road. And to drink often, even if we had to take a moment. Everyone was careful not go too long without water. I must've drank 2 gallons every day this week!!!!!

I almost passed out from the heat back when I started driving. I got dizzy and lost my balance. Of course I had water but wasn't drinking it. I had to take 20 minutes under a tree to get my bearings back, drank water and rested. I felt really dumb and promised myself never to let it get so far. We all know better, but once you get into the fast pace of our job it's easy to stop and worry about your well being.

We should all be surprised and shocked that it happens at all.
