I simply believe a driver with years of experience has been through many summers. They've experience their core temperature rising many times and hopefully can recognize the early stages of overheating.
That's not unrealistic.
As we get older our bodies experience many changes. 20 years ago I could go almost all day without peeing. Now I'm like a dog and it seems like I'm always "marking my territory." One thing that has changed is since I quit smoking, heat doesn't bother me as much.I simply believe a driver with years of experience has been through many summers. People that don't do our jobs have no clue. They think they do but they don't.It creeps up on you, and if you are already having a bad day, you can be in serious trouble before you realize it.

That's the one thing I have learned over the years. When I start making mistakes (that I normally wouldn't do) on a hot day. I take a time out.One of the hidden problems is that between heat exhaustion and heat stroke you experience mental confusion or unconsciousness, thereby not knowing how to take care of yourself. At that point your internal organs are starting to fail.
I had heat exhaustion one time and it was bad. Even the second day after a full nights sleep I felt awful.

You get so used to pushing it,you don't always see or feel it.
Or don't go to the bathroom after taking in alot of fluids.Huge red flag if you are no longer sweating.
I'm reminded 5 days a week......and yet I still......NEVER..... put packages over peopleDo you forget where we work?
I try not to push as hard when its hot and muggy. friend*emYep, first warning signs are confusion and possible dizziness. You need to stop, try to cool off, and hydrate when that happens. Hard to do at times when you are scrambling to get things done on your route.

The hottest part of the day. And your body is worn down.Like being in that critical hour of making pickups when everything has to click, and you have been pushing yourself all day long. Prime opportunity right there.
Do any of you have customers who allow you to refill your water bottle/jug at their business?
Matter of fact, Dave, on all my rural routes I had places and customers where I could fill my water jugs. Either out of a cooler, a tap and even really cold water out of spring houses.
What I didn't have, that you city guys have, were air-conditioned offices, stores and warehouses to hang out in for a few minutes.
I just got really hot and sweaty all day long.
exactly . company loves sending us messages about performance. how about a message to hydrate on hot days???? its very easy to get caught up on the job and fall behind on hydrating. It creeps up on you, and if you are already having a bad day, you can be in serious trouble before you realize it.
