Sure, and who will it be "write it off" onto ? In all likelihood.....Medicaid . It's obvious or they wouldn't have been seeking personal income information to see if you qualify Do you really think that hospital chain will just take your bill and simply eat it and smile? If they did that for everyone how long do you think it would remain open? Before they fall back onto their own limited CHARITY reserves they will seek every other private and public funding source they can think of and ask them to pay your bill for you. And among the first sources of reimbursement they will seek will be Medicaid. Imagine the SOL you would be in if those evil communist sympathizing pinko Democrats had not created and passed this program or the hospital had decided not to accept Medicaid assignment and remained private. As for 600K spend a few days in ICU undergoing a coronary procedure and let's just hope you never see the billed charges or you might just have another heart attack. As it turns out the hospital financial department just told me due to my income and not living with my wife since mid 2020(so they aren't including her income), there's a good chance that the bill can be completely written off. And you should understand something. Due to so many now being diabetic and so many with heart disease it's very difficult to get disability for having either unless you're truly disabled. Seriously disabled. My neuropathy has progressed to the point I can't stand for hours or climb ladders, etc so might now get it but most likely would have to jump through hoops for a year or more to get disability. If I do at all. And $600,000? On what planet?
Under the Social Security "blue book" the objective is to determine a person's "suitability for work" . What kind of work you're deemed suitable for for is not the objective. It is simply to determine based on the medical facts surrounding your individual person if you can still work. Therefore it's up to those deemed qualified not you to decide if you're "suitable for work" . You obviously have the 5 month waiting period in and if you have a record of consecutive years of reported earnings going back many years combined with your age and health your chances of getting SSD are pretty good.
