WASHINGTON (AP) — Roger Stone, a confidant of President Donald Trump, was arrested Friday morning on several criminal charges stemming from the special counsel's Russia investigation.
Stone is charged in a seven-count indictment with witness tampering, obstruction and false statements about his interactions related to the release by WikiLeaks of hacked emails during the 2016 presidential election. Some of those false statements were made to the House intelligence committee, according to the indictment.

The indictment brought by special counsel Robert Mueller does not accuse Stone of coordinating with the Russian government's election interference in 2016, the key matter under investigation in the probe.
No big surprise here. It has been expected for months. More process crimes. Mueller was pissed because Stone wouldn't bow to pressure so threw the book at him. Stone should get acquitted on most of the charges but indictments are what are important to Mueller.

Right. The charges state that he was attempting to access illegally obtained e-mails and lied to the FBI about his efforts. The question is why would a nobody like little old Roger Stone take such bold and risky actions? He's an attorney. He if anyone would know the consequences if he got caught. So the question clearly is..what was in it for him? The prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars might just be enough for him to answer that question.
At this point in time there is no proven direct connection to Trump.

After making a circus out of his arraignment including his Nixonian salute might have made the prosecution less willing to cut a deal . He appears to be so confident of acquittal or was this the behavior of an individual who knows that he's a dead man walking unless he can somehow be acquitted.
