Quitting or Unpaid Leave?

Long story short, currently I'm on Short term disability ending mid January. What I wasn't expecting was a job offer right after getting my bachelor degree.

They want me to start at the beggining of January. Obviously I cannot work while being on disability. So I either need to quit ups, with no 2 weeks notice. Or go on some form of unpaid leave while I figure out whether that new job is good for me.

Any advice how I should handle this?

Who gives a two week notice for a minimum wage job with no benefits? Take the other job.

Don't worry about what UPS may say to any future employers about you .
They are very tight lipped about it .
All they will confirm is start & ending dates .

March 17, 2015 was my last work day , I had surgery later that day .
Out on disability for 6 months , forced to retire Oct 1, 2015.
On March 14, 2016 I get a call from HR authorizing my return to work for March 17, 2016. I inform the caller of my status .
HR called again on March 15,2016 wanting to know when I retired .
HR called again on March 16,2016 wanting to know if I returned my Id and browns . I told them no.
All calls from HR were from the same person .

Sounds like someone has a stalker.
 
How about unpaid leave, I'm not sure if that other job will work out, so is there a way for me to keep ups as a backup plan? other than working both jobs which will have conflicting hours.

Assuming that I do quit, do I need to wait till January to receive my vacation pay or is that lost regardless?

Youre entitled to whatever hours are in your vacation "bank".

You CAN get a yes rehire, but that's not typical. You need to make a decision. If your decision is the other job, it's not that big a deal to leave without notice.
