There's more to this than just not having to pay for physicals. And physicals are cheap. The company would save more money by disqualifying unhealthy employees than they spend on physicals. $10 per physical isn't a major expense.

HOS rules.As in?
They aren't going to run you +14 hours per day or 7 days a week. The increased liability isn't worth it.HOS rules.
You don't know if FedEx as well as you think you do. Last year they would have if they could. They aren't going to run you +14 hours per day or 7 days a week. The increased liability isn't worth it.
Never.Just checked FedEx.com careers page and just about all are DOT openings. When will this take effect?
Like I said before they're not going to reclassify everyone unless they buy all new vehicles. But they will have some couriers that won't be under DOT HOS.Never.
Limiting employees to non-dot status means they are unable to operate any other vehicle over 10k lbs. It's a major restriction on how to operate the business. It doesn't make sense to do it.
But then again, it is FedEx...
FedEx made a huge investment in smaller vehicles because most of the bulk went to Ground. That ship has sailed, doubt we'll ever go back. Besides most couriers no longer have CDL's, usually just swing drivers. If an employee wants to be an RTD he'll get trained and get the CDL.Never.

But most in many stations drive Sprinters now. Is this all speculation or is it really happening?Like I said before they're not going to reclassify everyone unless they buy all new vehicles. But they will have some couriers that won't be under DOT HOS.
And there it is. They will be phasing out the step vans. And they will be moving to a part time workforce. THAT makes sense. They will only need a few DOT drivers to run some straight trucks. Reduce the pay on the PT work force and take away health insurance. That would save them millions.Like I said before they're not going to reclassify everyone unless they buy all new vehicles. Except if they can't keep couriers now it's doubtful they'll keep them without enough hours. And there it is. They will be phasing out the step vans. And they will be moving to a part time workforce. A new 500 cubic ft Ford Transit only costs 40k, is under 10k gvw, parts are cheap, gets 16-20 mpg. Would be a great replacement vehicle.
That's where you guys are heading...

Our Senior Mongoloid was trumping up what a good deal this is, of course the red flag went up and the grab your ankles feeling started.BMI etc.are secondary to the employee shortage. A smokescreen that disguises their real intentions.
