if the union won't, I won't. on the scene, my sup said he was just getting ready to call me to tell me how good I was doing. I'm :censored2:ing good. I've put everything into this. this :censored2: is some freak stupidity. but, I have an entirely new awareness.

Lemme guess hardest route in the building
Am I right?

The truth never changes.
Recently I refused to drive a pkg car because the hand brake, even when fully tightened, wouldn't hold the vehicle on a level surface in drive. Was a Sat, not a single mechanic around lol, no spare pkg cars that weren't already (partially) loaded. Told the center mgr, and he gave me a look and asked "How would you know that the parking brake isn't working?" I shot him a look back, "Because I did this thing called a pre-trip." He rolled off without giving me instructions, so I found a supe.

Supe's plan was to have me meet an air driver, swap cars on area. "The thing is, I told you this vehicle isn't safe to drive and must be red-tagged until the parking brake is repaired, so I can't give this pkg car to ______." "Well, he's only delivering 10 stops." "And what happens if the pkg car rolls away at his 9th stop and damages property or kills someone?" Supe reluctantly called the air driver and told him to head back, help me transfer my load, and take a partly-loaded pkg car to finish his deliveries.
This right here ^ is why I dont dog the op. We all know it's true.

I know of a driver that as a part timer went into driving and did not have a valid driver's license because it was suspended due to an OVI and the managers never check his license to see if it was even valid before they put him on the road. That's a classic. A person qualifies for driving position without a driver's license. So can they forget to tell you about tightening your emergency brake? Absolutely... and we know it absolutely can happen.

30 day wonders as supervisors is a recipe for disaster but management is never to blame.

Holy S*! How has this thread gone on for almost 20 pages and 350 posts? You need to grow the friend* up and take responsibility for your own actions. If you really didn't have the common sense or knowledge to apply the handbrake correctly, then you should have acted like a big boy and said to someone, "hey boss, I'm not real intelligent and I have no idea how things work, so is there anything else that I should learn about this truck before you send me out in the real world with this big brown death dealing truck?"

Instead of blaming everyone for your screw-up, be a man and not the drama queen that you are and say, "friend* it, boss I screwed up and didn't know how to work the brake, I should have asked for clarification on it's function. Please consider keeping me employed."

after driving all peak using this brake and all that day using it and doing line ups and all of this no problem, I really didn't know there was something I didn't know about maintaining the tightness of the handbrake and needed to ask. I would have been happy too. And from now on, I will assume there are countless other things I don't know and keep asking.

gezus. they really are inconvenienced by safety precautions even when they are properly caught in time, but as soon as one doesn't happen, its 100% our fault.

I had to argue with my sup over the course of 90minutes on Saturday because the truck we were sent out with was chugging and smoking. it was close to a 3 hr process to get a new truck. and the driver who had it the day before put a mechanic order on it, they still loaded it up and sent it out. like both of my union reps said, THEY DONT CARE.

Do you realize how serious a roll-away could be?
Yes you got very lucky that minimal damage happened.
Now it's time to own up to your mistakes and not blame other people
Peace out

ok why do agencies like OSHA exist? because everyone is just going to behave and be safe and properly educate people and know everything about everything? this is what oversight and follow up training methods are for. You want pilots just hoping they know everything? Police? People who produce food? Or do you want management in these companies to make sure employees are routinely tested and trained? and as an extra back up, the mechanics regularly do post-trip inspections to make sure drivers didn't miss something that needs to be reported?

Since you are now unemployed, it would seem a better use of time to try and find employment?
Instead of posting on here all day?

which is why I've reported this to OSHA and why the union will be investigating why I never got my 30 training packet and why there were no training follow-ups after integrad. I'm not the first driver to think park has fully engaged but it didnt. My brake was up. and the truck was stationary all the way up until I'm walking back to it.
this was one of the worst moments of my life, I don't need your help to feel bad about this.
