Seasonal Covered Under New Contract?

I worked for 4 weeks in 2024 as a seasonal support driver. I had $50 deducted from each of my checks for union dues. The last week that I worked, I only had about 10 hours, so that is $5/hour going to the Union. That is robbery!
No it’s not robbery because without paying that $50 per week there is no job.

Why do you care ?

You couldn't hack it at UPS.... and bailed to Fred- Ex

Maybe, maybe not. Like tons of seasonals, they didn’t offer me a permanent job. FedEx definitely has problems. But treating employees as poorly as UPS treats theirs isn’t one of them. For me, a better fit and no ulcers.

I care because the union shouldn’t be stealing money. At least not so obviously.

It certainly is pass through now. I never looked at it as a career. Just a part time job. Although they’re retiring more often now, there are those who’ve worked there many years and made a decent career of it. That’s not possible today because the few benefits we’ve had are being whittled away, tawdry as some of them are. Those getting hired now quickly see the situation and leave. I doubt FedEx will survive more than a few more years as a competitive, successful company.

FedEx is a union-hating, selfish corporation. UPS is too, but they’re saddled with the Teamsters.

I have tremendous respect for my UPS comrades. They earn every penny, and it’s blood money.

Big Union barnyard product, did you hear the word “acuity” on tv and just think using it would make you look a bit less dim? We can’t all be as hyped up on testosterone and driven by cultural stereotypes as you are. And oh, what a shame that is.

Cry me a river.

You should have quit and should never return then.

But for some reason the same people do come back year in and year out and continue to bitch and whine about having to pay dues, while doing bargaining unit work in a closed union shop and earning a union negotiated wage.

Another caveat that nobody considers is that the Union negotiated wage is a "minimum". Nothing stopping UPS from finding a creative way to offset the dues cost for THEIR temporary Peak Season help that will not gain seniority by the Company's design.

This is not a case of the "Big Bad Union" abusing these seasonal workers. It's a case of the filthy rich Company exploiting a negotiated discount, while pulling down obscene profits during the holiday season.

As they have done in the past. I believe they called it an attendance bonus. If they showed up everyday, the “bonus” covered the Union dues plus some.

Well said, thank you.

I beleive UPS only makes $1 per hour pension contributions for seasonals. They could easily add a little more to that pot and offset these crybabies dues. If seasonals are entitled to representation, then they should pay, very simple.
