THE TRUMP 2024 THREAD

You said this was about reciprocal tariffs. Trump said it was about reciprocal tarrifs. Being taken advantage of

So how do you explain us putting tarrifs on Colombia who we had free trade and a trade surplus with?

“if trumps going to get you no tax on tips and no tax on overtime then he's got to pay for it somewhere.”

So we’re going to tax ourselves 10% so restraunt workers don’t get taxed on their tips?

So in a free society those who have a drag queen stage persona shouldn’t be able to host a reading event where some parents freely bring their kids to listen to?

Just because it makes you and some others uncomfortable doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to engage in this kind of thing. It’s acting. It’s dress up. Should we ban plays at the local theater, too? Lots of dress up and different people in different costumes that might not rigidly fit your definition of what those folks should wear.

Get a grip.

I did that’s why I said it and was my point

Colombia is being hit with a 10% tarriff despite having a free trade agreement with America and U.S. having a trade surplus with them
Colombia and the U.S., despite their free trade agreement, now have reciprocal 10% tariffs on each other’s products.

Colombia’s Foreign Minister, Laura Sarabia, reacted to the decision, stating: “The Trump administration’s measures are not directed solely at Colombia but are part of a global decision that reorganizes the rules of world trade. Protecting our national industry and our exports will be our main objective.”

So before Trump we had a free trade agreement with Colombia. No tarriffs

Colombia bought $19 billion a year from us
We bought $14 billion from them

And now we’re going to add a 10% tariff to that?

I have no idea what they had before, but whatever it was or wasn’t it doesn’t sound like Columbia is worried about it. Don’t know why you are.

“We see this as an opportunity for our country, not only for... diversifying markets, but also as an opportunity for our products to be competitive even in the US market itself, understanding that the tariff imposed on Colombia is one of the lowest. This allows us to review other products that arrive in the United States under better conditions," Sarabia said.”

They’re saying it will make them more competive because they have lower than the rest.

But again, we have a trade surplus with Colombia. We buy way more stuff from them. The consumer pays the tariff. We just taxed ourselves

Perfectly fine with the tariffs if we get rid of the federal income tax. According many this is where Trump is moving so naturally, there will be a tariff on every nation. 10% being the minimum although I had originally heard it was 20%.

its a change to reciprocal tariffs not a trade war. if we were in competing business and you charge me 50 dollars for my shoes and i charge you 50 dollars for your shoes its not hurting either one of us.
So how do you explain Vietnam?

We buy $150 billion worth of goods from them, they buy $10 billion from us

They had 1% tariff and we just put a 50% tariff on them
