THE TRUMP 2024 THREAD

Ok so the tariffs are because of fentanyl at the border. So the goal of the tariffs is to pressure them to close the border with more security, with objective of getting the tariffs removed

But the tariffs are also to bring manufacturing back home and end unfair tariffs against us? And to remove the income tax by replacing them with tariffs? If tariffs are good for us why would we remove them? And if we’re not going to remove them why would other countries negotiate with us using them as a bargaining chip?

These plans don’t work together and doesn’t make sense
They don't make any sense to you because you haven't kept up with what Trump has been saying since even before he got reelected.

Heard that several times that he's leaving at 130 days because of the special employee rules. If his team has done about all they can do then might be a good thing to not give the libs a point to harp on.
he's got a lot of talent in place many successful CEO types . I'm more worried about them. Elon set it up and i hope the process stays in place when he leaves.

Trump was talking tariffs on Canada before he announced these worldwide tarriffs. He wanted Canada to shut down the fentanyl flowing over the border as well as get Canada to open up their market to American products and financial services.
Right… so he was using tariffs as a negotiating tactic, but that doesn’t work when you also plan on keeping tariffs in place permanently to replace income tax…

Everything is a negotiating tactic with Trump.
So why would companies spend billions of dollars to uproot and build here when this may all be a negotiating tactic by Trump and he switches his mind again?

Why wouldn’t they instead wait it out and pass the higher prices to American consumers, and see if he changes his mind, or loses Congress in midterms, or lose 2028 election, where tariffs could be removed?

You raise valid questions. We'll have to see how it shakes out.

when trump took power and sealed the borders the cartels started moving the fentanyl through the canadian border.
Now Mexican cartels have actually been sending fentanyl through Canada for years?
Fentanyl coming through Canada, especially from British Columbia, has been a thing for years now.
did you read the reference i shared? it seems pretty clear to me?

You said the Mexican cartels just started moving fentanyl south across the Canadian border after Trump sealed the borders. Then @vantexan said it's been a thing for years now.

So how do you explain Vietnam?

We buy $150 billion worth of goods from them, they buy $10 billion from us

They had 1% tariff and we just put a 50% tariff on them
Because it's either insanity or Trump and his team made up a bull:censored2: reason to try to extort countries and companies by setting up a corruption racket where these entities can pay him privately via his cryptocurrency to get themselves on the tarrif exemption list.

And if he does not a single MAGAt will complain.

Come on now, the Mexicans are trying everything possible to move it.

Why would Canada account for only like 1% of border fentanyl flow if the Mexican cartels were trying everything possible to move it through Canada?

They're trying everything possible to move fentanyl, including through Canada. That article was a little misleading too. Just because 40 something lbs had been intercepted does not mean that considerably more isn't moving from Canada.
