Tired of delivering Pottery Barn boxes

If you have 90 to 120 computer boxes (4 or 5 on a cart) going to the 55th floor (If you have 2 carts 8 or 10 a trip) load them up, wheel them to the freight elev. (hopefully you were able to park at the loading dock) Wait for the freight. (hopefully you can fit both carts on the elevator, and you you arn't waiting in line.) Stop 2 or 3 times on the way up. Goto the mailroom or reception on the 55th floor, find out they want them on the 57th floor. Wait for the freight again, goto the 57th floor. Wheel them down the maze of hallways, unload them. Wait for the frieght again, head back down, stopping 3 or 4 times. Reload and go up again. If you only have one handtruck this takes up to 4 hours. 2 1/2 hours with 2 carts at a time. (average about 15 or 20 minutes a trip) The time adds up.

That wasn't much of a challenge...Not a complaint either. I don't care how long it takes. Just an accelerated breakdown of the body..lol...That's why I moved to the country......More miles and less stops....instead of more stops and less miles.:thumbup1:

I hate seeing all this oversize Pottery Barn boxes in my truck. The other day just delivered 10 big PB boxes for one person. The problem with the PB boxes they are all oversize. Whatever happen to measuring the boxes. I hate specially the PB rugs i get. Its to akward to put on your dolly. Let me know if you guys have this problem also. Peace...

Those BIG white boxes that you can fit two adult bodies in? At least they are not over 70s...

I know that those PB boxes are a HUGE pain in the butt. However, Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids have created quite a few jobs for our fellow UPSers. In our center, we have a route that just delivers to Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids at our local mall. It's a full 24 footer and sometimes it's more than one. Nice route too. Just 2 stops and about 30 pick-ups. Of course, the piece count can reach into the 1000's. Still, you call the PB people on the phone before you arrive, they meet you at the mall loading dock with floats. You scan and move the packages to the back of the truck and they load them onto the floats for you. We are PB's exclusive shipper and they (and William Sonoma) have created many many UPS jobs. Their boxes are so huge that they have their own routes. Again, I know they are difficult to deliver (I'm currently on a large resi route so also see their boxes everyday) but unlike the Dell contract, this one has created a bunch of jobs for us so I am thankful to them.

Do all locals have the the no delivery over seventy lbs without help rule? My old center (Manhattan North) had over 70lb boxes sitting in cars for weeks at a time sometimes because we would not get help. Eventually the box would be gone (I guess delivered by a sup). About half of them are so battered and broken they would go to the damage area.

The sin of it all is when the weight limit went from 50 pounds (there were days that I never had to use a hand truck all day back then!) when I started to the current 150 (is it 150 still?) and the union not making UPS pay for it in a bump up in pay.

LOL...I have a daily pick up at a carpet manufacturer, I know where you are coming from, not only that they leave it on the floor where I have to pick it up one at a time they will not load it on a cart....how stupid!

How about Quill paper? One day I had 40 boxes (60 lbs for each). I must bring to 1st floors by stairs! It counted 1 stop!!!
I agree, My biggest quill drop goes to a little anerexic looking girl that has to load it, she always starts off loading it on the 3000 shelf like it is spa'd to but after two she is worn out then starts loading them on the floor. I have to tell her every time its a bulk stop start it and finish it on the floor. Its kinda funny, when I was hired 10 years one of the first questions asked was "can you lift up to 70lbs by yourself?" Now these people are in here trying to load and the poor little things cant lift 30 lbs. with out hollering "This sh** is heavy!!!" Mind you I am a female my self and would never admit to 30lbs being heavy before UPS. In a way I feel bad for her because "its heavy" but at the same time Its part of the job.... sorry!

There is nothing more fun then coming in on a Monday morning and seeing your car loaded with about a dozen o/s pieces of PB. Except when you have to lug someones dining room set up five flights of stairs in 95 degrees of high humidity. Alas, this is the life we have chosen and if we didn't do it someone else will. Fedex ground would be happy to handle this stuff. Of course they would just drop it in front on the street. I,ve seen this done.

Nothing over 40lbs should be loaded on the top shelves. :crying:(safety hazzard) Tell that loader to put all that paper on the floor.

The people signing up these accounts probably never stepped inside a package car or had to deliver pottery barn boxes or 40 cases of paper up 2 flights of stairs. When questioned about thier reasoning I'm sure they would say were getting our foot in the door so we may someday get all thier business! I say BS they're shipping smaller parcels via DHL, USPS and Fedex and the os3 with us because our competitors wont. Why because they know there isnt a profit in it while our UPS decision makers who don't leave the comfort of thier desk believe it looks like good idea on paper! HA!
just a little poll how many bad drivers were promoted into supervision? or Sales Reps hired right out of college? I know in our center everyone of our supervisors couldnt make it as a driver and they carried that experience with them when making decisions that effect UPS. Sales reps we get a new one every couple of months and then we get the same song and dance pcm. I'm here to make a difference and they need us to turn in a new sales lead every week.
I've turned in several sales leads only to have no one contact them and when I try to contact sales rep I get "oh she's no longer with UPS but we have someone coming in next week" and here we go again LMAO it's really hilarious

Thats what I start out telling them but we get so much stuff over 40lbs in our center the floor would be packed and shelves empty.

This might be true but I read an article where it says that Houston is one of the most obese city in the country. What do you think they are using the Bowflex for????
