Yes, though they do not get the NSI presidential daily briefing (PDB) nor are they allowed to view "presidential eyes only" PDBs.
Instead they receive intelligence briefings periodically sufficient to an extent that they can, should circumstances dictate, assist the government in a time of crisis.
Their security status is similar to upper level cabinet members though they are not inundated with intelligence minunate to the same degree, and they no doubt are kept out of "the loop" in regards to much of the more sensitive or closely held information.
Their degree of participation in this regard is optional on their part and some former presidents choose to be briefed more often than others.

if you're making the argument that Obama lied about closing Gitmo a few months shy of his second term ending then yes its relevant. If however you are making the argument a president elect has lied about his campaign promises then the person making the argument is the liar.

Not really ... they are both equal in the State of Lying.
Campaign promises are like requirements for software.
You go out and do focus groups, get opinions and even surveys.
Then you come back to the developers and they tell you what is possible with a cost and timeline for each component/promise.
Then the actual decision makers prioritize and then make a decision which ones are doable with least erosion of funding resources and other resources.

as I said before I think you have to allow him to actually get in office and violate his promises before calling him out on it.

Some he will get.
Some he will not.
The rest he will abandon as being not worth the effort and political capital.

He said it wasnt off the table but the media seems to have twisted a different phrase to mean he is letting hildog off the hook. The media only wants to report this as a way to dis illusion trump people.LOL
Basically Trump is distancing himself from it so when hildog is charged they cant claim political motivations (even though they will try anyway)
Big systems of wealth and power should always be there under scrutiny. Remember how united way stole all that money. Clinton Foundation handles more than 10x as much money!!
