Funny is subjective, and I certainly think it was funny, and also true. When my grandparents lost their house in 1993 or 94 in Laguna Hills fires, they had to sell their property. It was cost prohibitive to rebuild because of all the new rules and regulations. So there certainly will be some land for sale.
Funny thing is had they rebuilt their property would have more than 5x in value since 94.

Absolutely. Although they did take that money and invest in other propertyā€™s as that was not their main home. So they did OK. at the time it didnā€™t make financial sense for them. And the process was going to take 5 to 8 years..

No doubt that the rebuild process should be more streamlined for single home properties. Problem is greedy developers usually try to swoop in like vultures offering pennies on the dollar to those vulnerable families that are most affected by the process. I guarantee you NC will not be much different in that regard.

I was pretty young when all this happened so I donā€™t remember all the details but youā€™re definitely not wrong. A lot of it had to do with finding competent reasonably priced builders. There was a lot of sharks looking to capitalize.

Already happening here in WNC. It makes it even worse is that the a lot of the places affected are very low income areas, and ā€œifā€ they can rebuild at all the predators are out in force
