Union retirement age

Ours is 25 FT years any age but lose 2% of your pension for every year under 55. 30 and out at any age with full benefits. Since I started at 19, I'm definitely hoping our local doesn't change it. From what I understand it is union benefit that has nothing to do with the contract, so the individual locals can change it as they see fit.
What if someone leaves at 24 years? or even 19 years? Do they get anything?

I tried to call them, (1-800-323-5000) and their office is closed for the day but I will try again manyana. I also e mailed them as I couldn't find a place to register either. The site said I will receive a response back within 3 days.

Will be happy to let you know if they tell me how/where we can register.

What determines the retirement age for union employees?
I'm a bit confused with age 62 being mentioned and then years of service at any age.

I good friend of mine from Jersey said union employees can still leave after 25 years of service.

in jersey its still for now for full timers
25 years of service and 55 years old or older
30 years and any age

well here i think i can retire anytime with full benefits, i just have to die first.
The most stress in my life was exactly that I would not live to see my retirement, as stressful as this job is for all UPS employees.

I walked out of my building with the biggest smile on my face, for that reason. Another reason was I would never have to park in the UPS parking lot again.

And I enjoyed my 27 year career at Big Brown.

I did it by phone back in 2003, and I think that is the only way you could do it today. Be prepared to get a busy signal. Keep trying and you will find a polite human being to get you thru the process.
The interesting thing to me was the way the website has changed in the last 3 months. Now it shows I do not have to take a 6% reduction in pension benefits after 25yrs service and the age of 58.
I emailed them and asked if I would have to deduct 6% per year for my projected pension ,as stated in the past, and their response was no I would not be penalized.
I emailed them tonight to explain how this sudden change occured, without notice. They were prompt in their first reply and I hope they are the same with the second question.
Many thoughts ran thru my mind, of why things could have changed so quickly, but I will reserve judgment until I get the next reply.

click on the link for "Participants" on the left hand side and then click on the link to "Register" also on the left hand side

Got an e mail this am from the Central States folks. To register on their site, go to their website and in the upper left corner, choose Participants, and then choose Register. Follow the instructions using your SS# as your member ID# and then create your own password.

I went thru the steps but still couldn't log in. Called the 1-800# and they had to issue me another password, because...

I should have known to completely log out of the site once the member id# and password had been established.

Then go back into the site and choose Participants, then choose Login. From there you can navigate where you want to go...

Thanks Sammie, I will try that. I called the local union hall here today and the woman there took my social, asked how long I had been working and said she would get me a printout with several options and send it to me. She also said even though I have 27 years in I would have to be 57 for the health care to not cost me. She also said if I were to retire now the health would kick in when I was 57. I'll be interested to see my options. I'm also wondering what the next contract will bring. It could all change in a heartbeat. I'm hoping for the best, but not counting on it...

And yes, I also expect to see major changes next year to the pension and especially to the health benefits. I think the days of your preemo benefits will be a thing of the past and you all may end up with what the UPS clerical and mgmt have had for health benefits for some years now.

They pay monthly for their choice of a medical plan, their co pays are high (especially if one chooses to see a specialist):sad:
and the choices of doctors and dentists are very limited....

And speaking of the pension, the union pensions are underfunded and the company's pension plans are also underfunded. And you know UPS will try again to take hold of
your pensions.

At this point though, both choices come with issues and I really wonder which of the two would be most beneficial for you...???...

I got my printout yesterday and yes the stats are interesting. As far as what would be the most beneficial I can only say I wish I knew. Age wise I need to work at least 5 more years and that looks better to me than another 27.

I can only hope for the best with the contract next year. Some would suggest we have a say in all this but I believe we have very little if any.

Do I work 8 more years and get 25 year full-time pension? What about those 13 part-time years? Will I get something "extra" on top of my 25 full-time years pension??

I know it is confusing. Call 800-643-4442 and request a printout of your part time pension. I tryed today, but the offices were closed. It's a different time zone than where I am. You will get something for the part time years, but I have no idea what it will be. For the teamsters pension I suggest you call the union hall and talk to them. That's what I did. Let me know what you find out.

It depends on which plan you're in.

If you're in the largest plan in the Teamsters Union, Central States, due to massive mob pilaging in the past, and various criminal acts with the members money, as well as poor investments, trustees not accounable to the members, retirement is bleak, and certainly not 25-30 and out!

It depends where you are located, for some reason there are different benefits for different locals. There are even different plans in the same local, like where I'm from some have 1 of 2 different health care plans offered by the company and 1 by the teamsters. And both from the company are much better the the teamsters/ cs plan. But for some reason the teamsters feels that the company is screwing the teamsters by giving the employees a better plan. I mean wasn't it the teamsters that dropped us back in the 80's not to mention that it offers retirees an insurance cost of 50$ per spouse. I'd say we've come to the real reason that cs wants us back, GREED!!!!!

you better verify with cs first because at a central states meeting they replied this is a cut across the nation. Retirement is paid in full at 62, insurance may vary on location. ERISA

What is a cut across the nation? Our local has said nothing about any cuts or changes. We still have the full retirement after 30 years FT, or there are going to be alot of very surprised ex-drivers when they get that first check.

At Central States age 62 and older cost $180 member only and $360 with Spouse...age 61 member $205 with spouse $405....age 60 member $260 with spouse $460....age 59 member $263 with spouse $526.... age 58 member $296 with spouse $592....age 57 member $329 with spouse $628...that is the retiree benefit plan cost per month.
