"They will also know which pkg. car to load it on."

And that plan is exceptional..... unless your MY preloader, who constantly loads pkgs in the correct location on the shelf, BUT on the wrong car....... No lie. The plan wont work if you THINK your on the right car, but your on the one next to it!

You should have put these two posts together on "heard any good ones". Together they are better than half the recent jokes there!

Why all the grief about address corrections? Sometimes we are right, sometimes we are wrong. Bring it to the attention of your Sups. They should fix it if we are in the wrong.

Revenue Auditors do far more than address corrections. They are actually in place to "catch" the shippers that don't pay correct rates for their shipments.

Because they are like WVBrown, they dont want to listen, and admit they are doing something wrong. They cant imagine that UPS could ever do anything wrong. But that is a big reason why we are down more than 6% in our area over last year, and more than that on our larger businesses.

dannyboy, maybe will be like tieguy that might work move the business to where it's addressed. That will be a lot easier than making an addy. We're talking about legitimate bad or incorrect addresses they need fixed. Anyone not following the guide lines as to what is an addy needs to reprimanded. If a large or small shipper has a lot of address corrections charged to them they can call their UPS count executive and tell them the problem will be or has been fixed and the c.e. will remove the charges. UPS corporate only wants address corrected to reduce handling. Local management are bad about going over board on everything. Merry Christmas

The FedEx and UPS prices look right, assuming you are using the rates from their web sites.

Are there any figures indicating what percentage of the fedex ground volume are shipments by their existing customers that used to go overnight?

This isn't exactly what you asked for but it is interesting:

Survey: Shippers Seek Alternatives to Priority Mail
DM News
http://www.dmnews.com/survey-shippers-seek-alternatives-to-priority-mail/article/79557/

Shippers continue to divert parcel volume from the U.S. Postal Service's Priority Mail to rivals United Parcel Service and FedEx, according to a survey of major shippers from Bear, Stearns & Co. released this week.

Those responding to the Supply Chain Indicator-Third Quarter 2002 Shipper Survey said they would move 17 percent of Priority Mail volume, up from 11 percent in the company's second-quarter survey, to other carriers as a result of Priority Mail's recent switch to distance-based pricing and rate increases.

The survey also found that UPS shippers who diverted volume to other carriers because of the possibility of a strike by Teamsters this summer returned 68 percent of that volume to UPS as of mid-November.

Results also showed that 72 percent of business permanently redirected away from UPS went to FedEx. The 72 percent consists of 40 percent switching to FedEx Ground and 32 percent moving to FedEx Air.

The third-quarter survey was sent to more than 1,000 shippers from various-sized companies and verticals, and Bear Stearns received 65 completed questionnaires. The group of respondents was dominated by shippers with transportation budgets in excess of $25 million.

retired1,
Thanks for the post. Glad to finally see some real numbers (%) as to what amounts of volume we lost.
