Since Deep Purple was mentioned, Rod Evans the original DP singer joined Rhino Reinhardt and Lee Dorman of Iron Butterfly and Bobby Caldwell of Johnny Winter to form the great Captain Beyond. In the day I was a huge fan.

Here is their 1973' effort Sufficiently Breathless. Ian Gillan had a much higher register but Rod had an awesome rock voice. By 1980s' Rod was done with music and I heard he went into medicine. Both Rhino and Lee passed away in the last year or so and Bobby lives in Florida and still does some music.
